Yea, he looked alright after the hit. My guess is it was simply for precautionary reasons.

Smith was unbelievable tonight. Not just saves but body checking and playing the puck, everything. I saw him stop two pucks dead that were rimmed on the glass. Easy first star most nights, but Johnny was just as good. Probably the most entertaining player in the league when he's on.
Backlund's hit was pretty similar to the one he got in the 2016 World Cup, and I think he missed some Sweden games because of it. Dumba definitely launched and made head contact head so he should miss a game IMO.
Gio has done that move before and this will give duck fans more credence for their dislike of him.

Momentum from a hit almost always lifts the delivering player off his feet. I didn’t think this one was dirty, but it was an unintentional headshot that should have resulted in a penalty.

If my math is correct, Johnny is now 6th in NHL scoring -- one ahead of McDavid.
You know, if you're interested in that sort of thing...

Taking a while to get to 5000

John Shannon figures Backs will be out a while which says to me he will be just fine and in the line up Saturday.

Yeah, if the refs gave Dumb_a 5 and a game, Lomberg couldn't jump him then.

So, was Lomberg out before or after the hit?

After. He came out when Backlund went off.

First real depth test now. Neal to Line #1 RW, Lindholm to Line #2 Center.
This is where Lindholms diversity comes into play.

Kudos to Smith for regaining his form and showing consistency over a significant stretch. Wasn't sure it would happen at all, let alone so soon.
This team is for real.

Thanks. That changes my mind about something. Peters only avoids a fine if they figure Lomberg didn't do much (which he didn't).

I would juggle it differently to avoid messing with the top line right now.

Lomberg obviously wasn't out there in the last minute before the hit
use your brains guys...Peters barely plays the fourth line in the 3rd period let alone right at the end of the game

Love Peters going full Darryl and sending out Lomberg, that will galvanize this group. As well, Gaudreau is ridiculous.
