Is Apple the answer?
So lately my computer has been acting up. Not with a virus or anything, just symptoms of one. My computer is a dell, Core Duo 2 (Dual Core) 2.0Ghz Processor, 2 GB ram (originally had 1), awful video card. Laptop by the way, Inspiron 6400.
For last few months it seems to be dieing, A LOT of slow downs. Programs stop working then I have to delete with Task Manager, etc. Generally there are a lot of issues.
My question is: should I go MacBook?

I've noticed that my desktop has been slowing down A LOT in the last 3-4 months... but I haven't loaded anything onto it or anything.
I would stay away from a mac unless you need it or want to be cool. You can get faster, newer PC stuff for cheaper (still). Depending on what you want, just get a PC laptop again, and throw it out in 2 years when it eats it.

No, I don't want to buy a new one, and I am cool enough.
Just fed up with Microsoft. I use XP and it is supposed to be better than Vista (I have used Vista, I hated it), so if going from crap XP to horrible Vista is the answer, I will harm myself.
I have had this one for 2-3 years already (I forget when I got it, Gr.10 or 11)
But I want a new one going into College (next September). So I have months to decide I guess. Do they make quadcore for Laptops yet?

My Dell died a month ago in the middle of finals. Christmas came early and I switched to Apple. I love it, but just be ready for if and when you switch for everything to be different for the sake of being different. How old is your current laptop?

You could always try setting up a dual boot system with linux.

At least 2 years, if not 3. I forget when I got it, beginning of Gr.10 or 11. I am done now, taking a year off and saving up money for College.
I reformatted once before, since my previous one died so I had to get a new one, and noticed it was good for a month, then slowed right back down.
Would using Kaspersky 2008 slow it down a lot too, I have heard it does. But I hate all the other anti-virus programs.

I have the same laptop. I format at least once a year, but I'm always experimenting with programs and I like to keep it clean.

Just wondering, whats to hate about Vista? I don't see much difference between XP and Vista.Since SP1 I haven't had a glitch with Vista and besides XP is no longer updating in 3 days.
Not pointing fingers at you specifically but I think people slam Microsoft because they think it's the cool thing to do!
Fact is Microsoft is being used by 90% of computer users for a reason.
When you move over to a Mac be sure and share your frustrations on trying to get your programs to run properly.

So maybe Mac isn't the answer. I will reformat my harddrive after the hockey game. Just transfer all my stuff to the external HD, then reformat. I forget, how do I do it?

Burning up your battery power!
Apple is the answer if you want a computer that thinks it's smarter than you.
If you want Quad Core, desktop is the answer.

When you have to kill things from the task manager, what is it that you are killing?
Things to try first before reformatting:
Do a Malwarebytes anti-malware scan.
Do a virus scan.
Do a disk scan (chkdsk).
Go through your add/remove programs and uninstall things you aren't using.

No! Apple is not the answer!
I just built a sick desktop for another CPer, Captaincanada80, and for a very modest investment I can make you a kick ass computer too!
Pre-fabbed computers suck. Always assemble it yourself, or have a custom build for true quality.

Yeah, I know to assemble myself. I would get a desktop but I am going into College so I want a laptop for better use. Plus I like them for reasons I won't tell. If I had my own house, done school, etc. Yeah, desktop I would get.

If you need a school laptop, DELL are making 9" laptops with XP-PRO for $400. Its all flash-drive, so there are no moving parts and your battery will last forever. If you don't want XP Pro, they also send it out with UBUNTU for $320. Its the best deal on a small-form laptop I have ever seen.

Your right, Dells are great for post-secondary, just make sure your done in four years, because after 4 years they die for no reason.

Get an LG then. Its all I'd get. Dell or LG. LG is the only company that warranty the battery.
Order it from the manufacturer online, and not from a shop local. Save money, get good warranty.

We have a Mac, I don't like it. Too much stuff that I as a computer dummy, can't figure out how to do, whereas on a PC I could usually figure out.
