There is one near Pizza Bobs in the NW - also cash only. Not sure if it is related.

Dont know if its still there, but right across the street is a German bakery and you can get great Schnitzel burgers.
German place is gone, replaced by Empire provisions. Seems good but $$$ so I haven't had much from there yet- been open 2 or 3 years now

Got bagels today. Was a bit late and they only had poppyseed left, but they were so good I ate two in the car.

The Bagel Co in Canmore is good which are more of a fluffy version, almost like a croissant. Not sure if it counts as a bagel. I hope they eapand to Calgary one day.

Montreal’s were like a slightly denser version of a real pretzel, but not salty. Maybe a tiny hint of sweetness.

They’re kind of skinny though, it would be hard to make a sandwich with. Fortunately they’re delicious as is.

Yeah it seems like exactly the same setup as Montreal Bagels by Heritage/Glenmore but I haven't asked if they are related. The rosemary bagels are amazing if they are fresh. One thing about Montreal style bagels is that they get rock hard quickly. I'm going to have to try freezing them in the future.

Boooooo

Montreal bagels ( and yes st Lawrence bagels) deserve all of the attention and business we can give them— it is critical they don’t go under-
They are doing gods work

https://retail-insider.com/retail-in...retail-floors/

The downtown Hudson's Bay has announced that they are consolidating down to only 3 retail floors. My best guess is that this means the ground floor (already reduced for the Guild), +15 men's floor, and the 3rd level women's floor will be kept.

I assume they will completely shutter the basement where their kitchen/hard goods and where they used to have a cafe style restaurant. The children's floor on 4 will probably shut down. The 5th floor was furniture the last time I checked and 6/7 have been closed off to the public for a long time.

I never realized they even had that many floors for retail in the first place. I don't think I've ever gone beyond the floor and +15 levels

They used to have crazy appliance deals on the fifth floor. It was the clearance centre for the whole city, but nobody ever went up there. So stuff would just sit and they'd keep marking it down.

I got a great deal on couches and a mattress from way up there. The sales guys were this ancient dudes who had probably been there their entire lives. It was great.

Grandin Hall (the proposed venue where Wurst was) is now renamed as South Block (probably due to the connotations of the Grandin name), and features South Carolina-style BBQ a brewery and live music venue. Sister restaurant of Comery and Hayden. Can't wait!!

I wonder if the 'historic' street signage in Mission will be changed; 24th Ave was "Rue Grandin".

They could always put up signage that this is now in honor of Temple Grandin, and that would actually be in line with both the agricultural roots of the City and the progressive nature of Grandin's place as a female (and an autistic person) in that industry.

Or just change the meaning of the word "Rue" from the French word for road to the English word for bitter regret.

If you were a kid in the 80s, the 6th floor was the best floor in Calgary. It was the toy department, which was the one of the largest in Calgary.
Got my starscream, skywarp, landspeeder, snow speeder and At at from there.

Also the 6th floor was where the awesome cafeteria was located.

I too have fond memories of the sixth floor of The Bay.

Sad that they've been going through the long, slow decline, but I still shop there once in a while. Often screaming deals to be had on clothes.
