I am also a family of 4, and reviewing my atco bills, I have never dipped below 600kWh and have spiked to 1800kwh in a cold month when I forgot to turn off my garage heater.
Last month was 805kWH. I can't image what sub 300 would look like.

I used 3,500kwh in the cold snap! I am at nearly 8-10x Bigtime... 3,800 sq feet developed space and a bitcoin operation will do that, I suppose!

Speaking of solar being hot, are there any stats that show the split in solar installations between electrical generation vs. heating? I've often wondered if the better option would be to use solar to preheat domestic water before sending to the water tank, use it in heat exchanges etc. for home heating/cooling. I've seen some of those systems in other places but never here.

I have only seen one water heating system in the city, with the majority rural. They are more popular in Southern Ontario I found.

Drake Landing in Okotoks has a community that uses solar water heating I believe.

Seeing your monthly stats is cool.
I can't help thinking that a battery bank would be economical for you? You are producing more than you use so you could effectively be energy independent if you could store it.

Unfortunately you can't save a summer's worth of energy to use in the winter. It would help overnight, but they aren't cheap. Probably more affordable just to take the energy credit.

Fuzz pretty much nails the battery dilemma for us, and that the place we'd most likely have to put them is in the basement, which could flood.
I'm happy to get some money back for putting the power onto the grid.

Hey bigtime, I may have missed this in the thread but how big is your system. I am scheduled to have a 10.1kW system installed next month.

They are awesome,
Great actual results for people considering installing panels.
Do get access to the crazy $900 an MWH for your surplus power we had last week?

Alberta microgen rules are you get the monthly average price. Mainly because of metering - they just install a bidirectional meter and read it once a month.
Of course, months with huge spikes will have a higher monthly average price...

I would be curious to know if the smoke has decreased the output of the solar panels, some days a few weeks ago would have been really sunny if not for all the smoke
