If we’re getting nit-picky, I’m not sure how valid Howe’s 50yo season was

There is context needs for the top few guys on this list...the ‘record’ isn’t a big deal IMO...they are all incredibly impressive (except Messier is a ######)

If Marleau breaks the record, he books his ticket to the Hockey Hall of Very Good.

From a severance point of view common law would say you have 20 years of continuous employment at PWC. Likely from a vacation and other benefits point of view as well.

But he wasn't playing in the NHL.

Either it is an NHL stat (like it is), or it is a 'pro hockey' stat. If you count the WHA, how do you not count the KHL or Swedish elite league or whatever else? (see: Jagr, Jaromir)

Where is that listed?

Yes,but I assume you worked as a professional accountant all those years. The post was about how long, individual professional hockey players, played.

There's gotta be a combined list out there somewhere, but it's kinda crazy that Howe is 30th all time for WHA games played.

TIL: Howe was 7th all-time in WHA for pts (4 ahead of his son who played 7 more games, albeit the leading d-man by a wide margin). Pathetically, he's only 16th in goals.

He’s booked his ticket.
The very definition of a compiler. He can book his ticket, but he should be a tourist like the rest of us.

Absolutely nothing about any of his seasons screams he was the best amongst his peers.

https://www.hockey-reference.com/pla...marlepa01.html

No award nominations. No top 10 award finishes in any of the major awards. His only top 10 finishes in any offensive stat (goals) are finishes in the top 4 and 6. So twice he has cracked the top 10 in goals. Never in points or assists. No 1st or 2nd team NHL all-star selections (the game itself doesn't count).

But yes, he's played a ton of games and compiled a lot of points. If he breaks Howe's record, absolutely that accomplishment itself will be in the hall. But IMO just looking at his NHL career as a whole should not be the reason he makes it. Having said that, it is the hockey hall of fame, not NHL hall of fame. His gold medals will give him a good chance to get in.

When Kevin f'ing Lowe makes it in, Marleau will probably make it. I don't think he should, but I would say he has a good shot.

I hope he breaks the record. Howe himself would probably enjoy seeing it broken. As far as I'm concerned this is one of the "big 4" records, along with the most goals, assist and points. Seeing any of those big 4 records being broken is such a rare thing to witness. It would give the hockey community something to rally around as we try to put 2020 behind us.
