Maybe we could get Armia from them?
Tatar has 1 year left and plays both wings and on their left side, they have Tatar, Byron, Drouin and Lehkonen. They're also up against the cap after the signing.

Is there a deal to be had around Ryan+ and Tatar? Tatar has been a good player for them though so I'm not sure they're trying to remove him.

Canucks traded Staller, Madden, 2nd and a conditional 4th for him.

And then let him walk.

I mean, if he signed for $5.5 -$6M, then yeah, waive him goodbye. But considering that they have watched so many other players walk already, this is tough to fathom.

I look forward to the spins.

I think forwards are more sexy that dmen to fans is the problem

Anybody who knows what they are talking about will tell you that you need to build from the net out

The team with the "two best forwards in the NHL" missed the playoffs

That being said they still need to work on the top six, and I think they will

Season starts in 3 months, playoffs in 8 maybe?

Loui Eriksson was as good as gone, Sutter too.

They've done absolutely nothing except sign Holtby.

They've lost Markstrom, Tanev, Stecher, Toffoli, their D looks to be in shambles and once they've signed Gaudette and Virtanen they'll be right near the cap.

Weird.
Apparently Juolevi is going to be their savior on the back end and Holtby is going to recapture his former glory so they're set.

Would be funny if he out scores Anderson.

Ryan and Rittich aren't going to get much on the trade market. I don't know how much Rittich makes, but he's a perfect backup IMO. If I'm guessing, one of Backlund or Bennett is dealt for equal salary coming back. I'm hoping Bennett can work on his strength this off-season and perhaps jump to the second line. Backlund is just a solid two way player and I imagine he'd have a very good market if available.

I know Blaster will be along to tell us that Benning was only willing to offer XXX, but at the end of the day, you have to pay the palyers what they are worth.

The Canucks have taken a downgrade in goal, and have watched Tanev, Stecher and Toffoli walk.

Dim Jim is knocking it out of the park!

Nope, I'm a bit shocked we couldn't meet this. We have the cap, will have the cap, he enjoyed playing here and our guys enjoyed playing with him.

The OEL thing ####ed us wholly and completely. We've now let every single UFA that mattered walk. All because we weren't willing to say "Nope, taking too long" a week before UFA.

Toffoli wasn't going to be redundant for about 4 years, so it's not even like this deal was too long.

Only positive spin I can even attempt on it is that the team thinks Hoglander and Podkolzin are further along their development track than expected.

Edit - Also the possibility that the Aquilini's have revoked their "cap team" statement while saying nothing and Benning's hands are completely tied. Not that this would be a positive spin, but it would explain why we've gone from being a cap team to probably being close to 10 million under the cap with less than $60 of that being actual dollars.

I like that signing for Montreal, and the Canucks continue to lose players. They must going for Hoffman or one of the other big fish.

Lots of love for Arizona today.

Way to dismantle the Canucks (inadvertently with their indecisiveness).

From the rumors the Canucks actually offered him more so maybe he just wanted Montreal

Great deal for the Habs.

I’d much rather have 4 years of Toffoli than 4 years of Tanev.

People obsessed with Toffoli understand that Brouwer was outscoring him going into his 4 year deal with the Flames...In 2 of his last 4 seasons he has scored 34 points, despite ample top 6 and power play time. The only reason he was available from LA despite early indications he would be a solid top 1 or 2 right winger is that he took many nights over the last few year off. I think the Flames need to he extremely careful not to fill out their rosters with a bunch of over 30s. They are better off trading for an early to mid 20s player that can do what Toffoli (or better) did for the last 6 years as opposed to chasing that he may be able to repeat in the next 4.

Toffoli was the player I really thought we should and could afford to sign. I am guessing he just didn't want to play in Calgary. Very disappointing...

But they don't really have cap space. They have about $8M but they need to re-sign Virtanen and Gaudette (probably $3.5-4M right there) and sign 2-3 starting defensemen.

This is the natural result of Benning spending $25M on Eriksson, Sutter, Ferland, Baertschi, Roussel, Beagle, and Benn. He has blown nearly 1/3rd of the cap on bottom of the roster junk and AHL quality players.

He is such an impressive playoff performer. 25 points in 54 games in his career with the majority of that coming in one season when LA was stacked and won the cup. Boy did the Flames miss out on this guy.

I can see you guys potentially swinging for Hoffman now though with the resulting cap space.

We would but our GM is apparently a lot more satisfied with our forward group than he probably should be.

It's interesting and I am not sure about any of this, they gained about 11 million worth of cap in Brodie Hamonic and Talbot. That's now been replaced by 10.5 in Tanev and Markstrom. There is no money for a forward and Barrie sucks, has the team improved? Lets see what happens....

If the Flames would have signed Taffoli, they would be relying on too many young defenseman. The rest of this has to come via trades.

Even an average season for Tanev is an improvement on Hamonic.
