Everybody they sign wants to play offence
Barrie, Smith... love it.
They’ll be top 10 in the league for both Goals For, and Goals Against.

After their shrewd signing of Barrie, this signing makes me happy. They got the better dman and we got the much better goalie. Much preferable to get the good goalie.

Not to mention signing Turris... and the still need to sign a few guys to fill out a roster with almost no cap space now

This was probably plan Z but like I've said, no goalie in their right mind who isn't desperate is going to willingly go to Edmonton. They are a tire fire defensively. Even their Hart winning star players don't commit to any level of defensive hockey.

Haha no no. Smith was plan Z. They didn't realize how much people hate Edmonton until they tried to sign literally anyone else and they declined.
Edit: haha roof daddy, great minds think alike.

Powerplay Quarterback
Why $2 million? What other team was he going to sign with, let alone for $2 million?

Didn't they sign Forsberg? He is a better goalie than Smith.

He's like a 3rd defenseman.

Trading RNH? One of their lone two way players.
Would be par for the course they're on.

There was more of an importance to sign a proper goaltender than getting Barrie. Even if they wanted Barrie they should’ve traded RNH for a proper starter. Smith as your backstop at this point in his career when you’re trying for a championship is utterly stupid. I give it two years before McDavid demands a deal out.

So the Oilers felt that they needed to improve their defense and goaltending...
Last year:
Klefbom - Larsson
Nurse - Bear
Russell - Jones
Koskinen
Smith
And this year, they are going to go with:
Nurse - Barrie
Jones - Larsson
Russell - Bear
Koskinen
Smith
lol

Makes sense, he attempts to play some defense, and that's frowned upon up there
