1) Are you going to continue to watch the playoffs or are you going to pack in in and wait for the start of the offseason activities?
I never really pay attention much to the playoffs once the Flames are bounced. I will probably check the scores now and then, but doubt I will watch games, or even a lot of highlights.
2) How likely are you next year to dedicate a lot of time to watching Flames hockey?
Same as ever probably.
3) Would you consider yourself a die hard flames fan, a interested flames fan, a casual flames fan?
Die hard, but I don't get as high or low as I used to. Back in the day, a playoff round ousting would have made me pissed for a while, but now I don't care as much. Nor was I super enthused after beating Winnipeg.
4) What would it take for you to switch team allegiances?
The Flames would have to relocate or disband for me to care about another team. I would probably just quit the NHL altogether at the point though.
5) Do you think that the on ice product that is provided by the NHL a) Its great hockey don't change a thing b) Its not a great product, I watch it because there's not a lot out there or I feel obligated c) I'm thinking of being done with the NHL.
I think it is overall a great product, but I really hate the shootout still. I don't get why ties were so bad to some people. They could have just made OT 10 minutes instead of 5. With 4-on-4, or (ugh) 3-on-3, ties would become very rare.
There also has to be a better way to officiate the game. Like if the bird's eye sees something blatantly obvious to cause or negate an infraction, they should be able to override the refs. It's ridiculous to me that with the tools available, we rely on what the refs are able to catch, while people at home yell at their TVs.

1) Will still watch parts of most games.
2) Still likely I will, but every year I watch less than I used to.
3) Somewhere between Interested and Casual now. Was more of a die hard, but have scaled back a lot since I had kids.
4) Team relocation, or something horrific like the Flames were the NHL's version of Jeffrey Epstein.
5) Of the three options A best describes how I feel. There are things that could be improved, but overall the game is pretty good. The players are better athletes than they've ever been.

1) I'll still watch some of the playoffs, but not with the same level of interest now that the Flames are out.
2) If we're still in the same COVID situation, hockey to watch will be a welcome respite. If we get out of COVID, I'll watch less unless it's out and social
3) I don't know if I'd say die hard, but I've been a very dedicated fan. I've kept up with watching games and following the team actively despite being on the other side of the world for more than a decade.
4) I'd rather just be a hockey fan that cheers for whichever team is playing hockey that I like or has players I like rather than being a loyal fan of another franchise. After so many years away from Calgary, and the Flames being such a consistently disappointing franchise, it's hard not to question the arbitrary allegiance to a team just on the basis of being born in that city. It seems really stupid to repeatedly experience disappointment by choosing to support a team I arbitrarily supported in the past. I wouldn't offer the same allegiance to a person in my life who kept disappointing me this way. I understand people who benefit from membership in a community of fellow fans, but not having lived in Calgary for many years there's also pretty limited sense of community membership through being a fan for me, apart from CP of course.
5) The hockey is good and the NHL has done a great job of developing their product over the last couple of decades, but the reffing is terrible. It's just way too inconsistent, arbitrary and confusing. I especially feel in recent years that I don't even really know what a penalty is anymore because standards constantly change, even within individual games.

1) Are you going to continue to watch the playoffs or are you going to pack in in and wait for the start of the offseason activities?
Nope, to me the hockey season ends when the Flames is eliminated. Or maybe if a game goes into 2 or 3 OTs or longer, I will tune in to watch the teams suffer....
2) How likely are you next year to dedicate a lot of time to watching Flames hockey?
Let's just say I won't be watching every single minute of every game.
3) Would you consider yourself a die hard flames fan, a interested flames fan, a casual flames fan?
I suppose for us on this forum we are at lease a interested fan.
4) What would it take for you to switch team allegiances?
I will not switch allegiance, unless Murray Edwards sold the team and it move somewhere. Or if I move to Seattle or Vegas and live there for a few years I may root for them as a second team. But always Flames first.
5) Do you think that the on ice product that is provided by the NHL a) Its great hockey don't change a thing b) Its not a great product, I watch it because there's not a lot out there or I feel obligated c) I'm thinking of being done with the NHL.
(d) NHL is not a great product right now, I watch it because of the Flames, and the Flames only.

1) Are you going to continue to watch the playoffs or are you going to pack in in and wait for the start of the offseason activities?
I'll check the score here or there, mainly cheering against certain teams.
2) How likely are you next year to dedicate a lot of time to watching Flames hockey?
Very likely I'll dedicate as much time I can watching Flames hockey.
3) Would you consider yourself a die hard flames fan, a interested flames fan, a casual flames fan?
Die hard Flames fan since the mid eighties
4) What would it take for you to switch team allegiances?
Never, not even if the Flames move.
5) Do you think that the on ice product that is provided by the NHL a) Its great hockey don't change a thing b) Its not a great product, I watch it because there's not a lot out there or I feel obligated c) I'm thinking of being done with the NHL.
The on ice product is great, the on ice official need a lot of improvement. Also not too fond of the point system, as in loser point. If they want to award loser point then do the 3-2-1 system.

1) Are you going to continue to watch the playoffs or are you going to pack in in and wait for the start of the offseason activities?
Yep. Flyers are my second team, so I’ll be watching them for sure. A couple of the other teams I follow closely as welll, are still in it. Though it would be nowhere close to the amount that I usually tune in. A shortened offseason is a boon. Will catch up on more draft stuff (though somewhat familiar due to our in-house CPHL community) and some of the free agency prospects.
2) How likely are you next year to dedicate a lot of time to watching Flames hockey?
Probably the same amount as this year. I tend to watch all the games, and I don’t see that changing next season. It might be a bit different since I won’t be able to attend games if fans are not let back in the arena.
3) Would you consider yourself a die hard flames fan, a interested flames fan, a casual flames fan?
A die-hard flames fan, but also a hockey fan in general.
4) What would it take for you to switch team allegiances?
I don’t see that happening, though I do like and support the Flyers from the east.
5) Do you think that the on ice product that is provided by the NHL a) Its great hockey don't change a thing b) Its not a great product, I watch it because there's not a lot out there or I feel obligated c) I'm thinking of being done with the NHL.
I think it’s pretty good. There are definite improvements that can be made to the sport, but that is the case for most walks of life.
Specifically will talk about Media Coverage
I do feel a bit cheated of tv presentation though for Canadian hockey. When you catch a game on an American broadcast , you do have pre/post game analysis/discussions that definitely adds to the game. Sportsnet has turfed all of that, which is definitely disappointing. Yes, there is flames TV, but the caliber of presenters is not the greatest (even though I love Stajan) I also find the talent on 960 to be not the best. I’d love to tune in more, but just don’t want to. I end up catching the hockey central at noon from Toronto almost 3/4 times a week, but barely tune in to hockey talk locally, just because it is not as enjoyable.

1) Are you going to continue to watch the playoffs or are you going to pack in in and wait for the start of the offseason activities?
I will have some games on in the background and watch overtimes/game 7s, and then all possible Cup-winning games, but likely will not watch many games in their entirety. I have pre-season Cup props on the Lightning and Golden Knights so will be rooting for them to win some cash, but my positions aren't large so not overly interested.
With the circumstances that COVID brought, I have been procrastinating on draft preparation so will use most of the next six weeks video scouting and preparing my rankings in advance of October's draft.
I will also put probably 10-20 hours into re-calibrating and optimizing my hockey models for next season, whenever that is.
2) How likely are you next year to dedicate a lot of time to watching Flames hockey?
100% likely. I'm a degenerate and complete sucker. Even when the Flames make moves that have a 90% chance of failure I still stick with them.
One thing I could see changing is the number of games I watch. In a normal season, I watch 30-35 at the 'Dome, and probably 20-25 on TV. I get significantly less enjoyment watching on TV versus at the 'Dome due to the ####ty camera angles used - if I can't see the red line at all times I'm grumpy, and preferably both blue lines would always be in the picture. Also no fancy angles, please. If there are no fans next season, I could see myself watching like 40-50 games only.
3) Would you consider yourself a die hard flames fan, a interested flames fan, a casual flames fan?
Die hard, unfortuantely.
4) What would it take for you to switch team allegiances?
The Team moving or folding. Even then I wouldn't pick another team outright, I would cheer for particular players.
5) Do you think that the on ice product that is provided by the NHL a) Its great hockey don't change a thing b) Its not a great product, I watch it because there's not a lot out there or I feel obligated c) I'm thinking of being done with the NHL.
None of the options accurately represent my view, but "a" would be closest. It's a pretty good product, in fact getting better all the time, however there are some obvious improvements that could be made right now but will take a while because of dinosaur hockey men.
"b" and "c" aren't representative of me in any way. I like other sports too, and I'm not sure why anyone would feel obligated to watch sports aside from it being their job.

1. Nope, nothing has me interested in the playoffs any further.
2. A lot, its like wheel of fortune for me. A part of my programming schedule. Plus it keeps me and my brother talking.
3. Today, interested Flames fan. Die hard since the 04 run but uhhh things are wearing me down. Partly because theres so much more to life these days, its taking up less space. I find I'm more interested in the team building and roster composition aspect than the actual games themselves. Im all in if they can get past the first round ever again though.
4. Who can say? I think I'd be pretty much done with pro sports on the whole if I lost all interest in the Flames. Outside of racing. End of the day, all it might take is Seattle to make some sort of great statement and the Flames to keep on with this always push all in too early mediocrity organizational team management thing.
5. B and C. And there's a certain amount of joy sucking going on trying to enjoy games with fellow fans here on CP. Last few seasons its really taken a massive turn towards bitterness and dong swinging bravado. Myself included. Advanced stats and the constant bombardment also buzzkil hockey for me. Still just seems like a desperate grab for old people to keep interssted, and keeps media people employed. All seems so forced. More I think about the more I'm getting closer to C.
But I know I'll be back like a sucker for the draft, FA and puck drop on first scrimmage at camp. Really is a labor of love at this point. Less entertainment than before.

1) Are you going to continue to watch the playoffs or are you going to pack in in and wait for the start of the offseason activities?
Pack it in. I will possibly watch games in which the Cup could potentially be awarded.
2) How likely are you next year to dedicate a lot of time to watching Flames hockey?
100% likely
3) Would you consider yourself a die hard flames fan, a interested flames fan, a casual flames fan?
Die hard
4) What would it take for you to switch team allegiances?
Reincarnation
5) Do you think that the on ice product that is provided by the NHL a) Its great hockey don't change a thing b) Its not a great product, I watch it because there's not a lot out there or I feel obligated c) I'm thinking of being done with the NHL.
Closer to A. There are issues, but overall NHL hockey is a superior product to the NBA and MLB. NFL is a monster, but it has major problems too.

1)Will watch for sure. I'm a huge draft watcher though, so I can't wait for that!
2)Every possible waking moment
3)Die hard since 1980. Saw some games with my Father in the old Corral.
4)I would follow them to another city if they moved. I would never switch.
5)I think the product is somewhat the vision we all had back in the clutch and grab era of what we wanted to see-fast, and with skill on full display. I would like more physical play, and the reffing needs to change, but it's by far the best sport on earth!

1) Are you going to continue to watch the playoffs or are you going to pack in in and wait for the start of the offseason activities?
No, there's no point. Unless I go somewhere and it's on, I won't go out of my way to watch.
2) How likely are you next year to dedicate a lot of time to watching Flames hockey?
Not very likely at all. I guess it depends how the off season goes, if they stay the course I don't care because they're not good enough. I would watch more if they did a tank-build and could watch young guys develop and learn.
3) Would you consider yourself a die hard flames fan, a interested flames fan, a casual flames fan?
I was starting to lose interest before and with everything going on in life I think I'm fading more to casual.
4) What would it take for you to switch team allegiances?
Something drastic. I may start to follow other teams but I'll always be a Flames fan at heart.
5) Do you think that the on ice product that is provided by the NHL a) Its great hockey don't change a thing b) Its not a great product, I watch it because there's not a lot out there or I feel obligated c) I'm thinking of being done with the NHL.
Out of those options, somewhere between B and C

1) will watch parts of the playoffs
2) slightly less likely as I got center ice this year and am going to save the money next year, probably down to about 30 games.
3) diehard, had season tickets for 20 years when I lived in Calgary
4) this is highly unlikely
5) probably watch it because i think it is a great product, best team sport on the planet.

1) Are you going to continue to watch the playoffs or are you going to pack in in and wait for the start of the offseason activities?
Nah, I'll score watch the Canucks/Knights series maybe.
2) How likely are you next year to dedicate a lot of time to watching Flames hockey?
Not likely, I'm burnt out hard on this team.
3) Would you consider yourself a die hard flames fan, a interested flames fan, a casual flames fan?
I used to be die hard, but now I'm more interested to casual. I don't watch a whole lot of games anymore because Glen Gulutzan hockey quite simply broke me.
4) What would it take for you to switch team allegiances?
I'm already finding myself hopping on the Canucks bandwagon. They're a fun team to watch with a lot of high end talent. But I'd probably just quit watching hockey altogether before I cheer for another team.
5) Do you think that the on ice product that is provided by the NHL a) Its great hockey don't change a thing b) Its not a great product, I watch it because there's not a lot out there or I feel obligated c) I'm thinking of being done with the NHL.
Somewhere between B and C. There are some fun teams to watch who play an exciting brand of hockey, but I also don't really feel any emotional attachment to them the way I used to for the Flames. And my god this league has a serious reffing problem that compromises so many otherwise great games. Game management sucks.

About the same an usual. Not watching religiously but will keep an eye on things and likely catch the end of the finals. Won't go out of my way to watch, but will if its on.

Very. Flames are my team. There is no joy without heartbreak. I've experienced too much heartbreak in sports to go out broken. Its the good times that stick with me, the great memories, not the crappy ones. The little guy is just getting into sports now. Watching him jump and run around for Flames goals made md happier than actually winning the games.

Die hard. Keeping in mind that this board is made up of the outliers of the bell curve of Flames Fans. There certainly are more die hards here than me. But they are my team through thick and thin.

Excellent question. If the off ice leadership (owner, president, GM, etc) stopped caring. Of they knowingly made poor decisions, if they weren't trying to improve, and if they took it out on the fans and myself.
If employees were being mistreated and no corrective actions being taken.
If they thought themselves better than the community rather than a contributer to the community.
Note. None of these things deal with the game itself and results on the ice. Its the leadership and integrity off ice.
You can consistently lose, so long as you're trying to improve.
We can say we've been hooking our wagon to Monahan/Gaudreau but changes in goaltending when it wasnt working were made. Same with coaching. Same with secondary players. It may not be the direction you or I would have taken, but the standard is attempting to improve. Which they have been doing, regardless of results.

D) It's a great product that can be improved upon. I think the NHL needs to do away with 'game management' and give referees more training on what is a penalty. Penalties should be standardized. By that I mean a penalty in the 1st period of a game in November is the same as a penalty in overtime in the playoffs. Whistles don't go in pockets.
If linesmen can get their calls right 98 times out of 100, then referees should too.
Maybe this means a 3rd referee off ice, or maybe one on the ice one off the ice? Maybe it doesn't mean a change at all?
Consistency in the rules is what I want.
I'm also not opposed to the NHL making public a methodologies for referee evaluations, and letting TSN, SN, etc score the officials. I'm surprised this isn't done in baseball in a more formal way.
Also when it comes to discipline I wouldn't be opposed to having a panel decide suspensions etc. Ideally, including people with training in determining punishments like criminal attorneys or judges. I like the idea of having people removed from 'hockey' with input. I'd rather the punishment or suspension given by someone who is an expert on rules, given the guidelines, and any suspention history, determine a suspension for Marchand than be biased because he's a jerk, conversely I don't want Ovetchkin to get a slap on the wrist because he's Ovi. Same standard for all.

1) I’ll check scores, but I won’t watch any more games. I’ll watch Raptors and Cavalry.
2) I will watch if I’m at home not doing anything, but I won’t make extra time for games if I’m busy already.
3) Die hard, but I don’t get emotionally invested the way i used to. I don’t let Flames games wreck my day anymore.
4) I would never switch. I’d quit watching hockey before switching.
5) it’s a good product. Game management officiating needs to go away.

1) I’ll likely have the games on in the background but I won’t be sitting down to watch an entire game until someone has 3 wins in the finals. I love watching the celebration and cup presentation.
2) Extremely likely. I’m not happy with the current direction of the team but I’m still with them 100%. Regardless of how good they are I can still use them as an escape for a few hours.
3) Die hard.
4) They would have to leave Calgary for me to stop being a fan.
5) The overall product the NHL has trotted out has dropped significantly. I used to watch games that were on no matter what teams were playing. Now I watch almost exclusively Flames games. I would say I’m a hockey fan first, a Flames fan second, and an NHL fan third.

Watch a game here and there till the cup finals.

Yes

Never going to happen. Realized this year, how much I hate other teams just because of their history with the Flames.

1) Are you going to continue to watch the playoffs or are you going to pack in in and wait for the start of the offseason activities?
- absolutely going to keep watching
2) How likely are you next year to dedicate a lot of time to watching Flames hockey?
- as likely as any time before (high).
3) Would you consider yourself a die hard flames fan, a interested flames fan, a casual flames fan?
- “die hard” as in I follow all the intricacies, prospects, games. But I certainly don’t get upset when they lose. I just enjoy the whole thing.
4) What would it take for you to switch team allegiances?
- wouldn’t happen, although I follow the league cause I love it. On any given night I could find myself cheering for any team but 2 (we know who they are... except the Canucks don’t make my blood boil anymore). I have jerseys and hats for several NHL teams. I find I cheer for specific players more than threads.
5) Do you think that the on ice product that is provided by the NHL a) Its great hockey don't change a thing b) Its not a great product, I watch it because there's not a lot out there or I feel obligated c) I'm thinking of being done with the NHL.

1) Watch it all the way to the end every year.
2) Will watch every game.
3) Die hard since day 1 and a 5-5 tie with the Quebec Nordiques.
4) Suppose if the franchise folded I'd have to decide on a new team. (Philly perhaps?)
5) Emphatically A. Couple rules I think are dumb (trapezoid I'm looking at you) but the speed, parity, and skill level around the league has never been this good in my lifetime.

2) As usual, won’t miss a game.
3) Diehard
4) A serious head injury where I no longer become a masochist.
5) a bit of a) and a bit of I enjoy following a team, discussing them, complaining about them, getting into arguments about them, and hoping next time it will be different.
