Unfortunately, I think he was talking about saving Michael Frolik, so that didn't age too well LOL. If you could jettison Frolik to Buffalo for a 4th in September and sign Chucky for 6 years or something, I think you'd take that every time.

Yep he did say he was looking at long term at the start. Whether it was lip service or not, you’re correct that is what he publicly said.

Chucky is nickname based off his last name. Admittedly, hockey players aren't the most creative when it comes to nicknames (Backs, Talbs, Iggy, etc.), but the association with a fictionalized horror franchise is more a fan product of than an origin.

Of course I'm not sure what you're point is, exactly, but the nickname Chucky and the memes fans have created around it is not an indictment on Tkachuk as a person or a player.

On topic, I believe Matthew Tkachuk will be the next captain of the Calgary Flames because he is talented, has a massive hockey IQ, possesses a GAF factor that is off the charts, and has displayed multiple leadership qualities you can get excited about in a young player. However, now is not the right time to give him the C. Gio's play may have dipped, but he is still the clear leader of this hockey team.

Everything about Tkachuk screams captain. Make no mistake, I love the guy.

But what seems to get lost in the mix with him is that he's part of that group of Gaudreau, Monahan, Lindholm etc that has under performed in the playoffs. For 7 million bucks he didn't do a ton this playoffs, production wise. Yes, yes he is the heart beat of the team and drags the whole roster into games emotionally, but for 7 million he needs to start producing too. He's not being paid, just for his reputation alone.

I do wonder if he could benefit in small adjustments to how he plays. Against Colorado he was running around until he got clocked by Zadorov. Against Dallas, he absolutely was targeted for who he is. Resulting in a concussion.

I agree he is part of the future, but he is not without blame

It actually seems very unlikely that Gio would be traded unless you knew something beyond what is visible to us fans.
