Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced today that the team team has agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension with goaltender Jake Allen (until the end of the 2022-23 season). The deal has an average annual value of $2.875 million.

For Allen I think it’s great. Reportedly having confidence issues and is too hard on himself. Having Price as the other option basically alleviates all the pressure.

I wonder if there is something going on behind-the-scenes with Carey Price. Injury, retirement or trade?

With a $10.5M goaltender, you don't need a $2.875M backup.

All of these moves reek of Bergevin trying to delay his firing just a bit longer.

Without looking too deeply at Montreal's players and trying to guess who they'll protect for expansion, seems like Allen could be a good, obvious pick-up for Seattle in a year.

Montreal gets a good back-up for a condensed regular season (20-21) and then Seattle gets him as a good goalie for a tandem in their 1st season signed at a reasonable salary.
