I don't know. As someone who (very very wrongly) expected the Sabres to finally turn the corner several times in the last couple year, it's quite clear that something needs to be changed.
The biggest issue is that Eichel isn't happy and being vocal about it. Even Dahlin has stated his dissatisfaction. How long will it be before Cozens and that 8th overall are able to make an impact for the Sabres? Another bad year and Eichel is demanding a trade. I'm not sure they have the luxury of waiting.
There is also that weirdness that happened with Botterill this summer. First was given the public confidence and reassurance from the Pegulas only to be fired a week or so later after some discussion about the direction of the team. Perhaps Botterill emphasized the need to be patient and stay course while the Pegulas wanted to see the playoffs for the first time since they bought the team in 2011.
Now they have a rookie GM who, I'm assuming, is being pressured to make some big changes. I think the Sabres are ripe for some "hockey trades" that will leave people, especially those who think draft picks and prospects are worth more than they actually are, scratching their heads.
