Plants smell for sure. Just like flowers do. A few plants in your backyard probably aren't getting very far. A grow-op worth of plants, yeah probably.
No different than having lilacs everywhere or something.

Being able to grow your own plants at home is going to be nice.

Lilacs smell good though.
I will be curious to see how this is rolled out. I can't stand when people smoke in public. It just smells so terrible.
I also imagine the USA border agents will start asking people if they smoke recreationally and start denying entry to those who answer that they do.

Aren't there systems now that will basically grow a plant for you with very little intervention? Like, you pop a seed in the one plant green house, fill with water/fertilizer, plug it in and in a month or two you have bud?

Subjective.
Also, the smell of burnt weed is obviously much more potent than the smell of the plants themselves.

If this exists, it will likely have a new customer soon.
However, my understanding is that growing weed is quite a bit more complicated than most other plants, if you actually want to smoke the buds.
If you want cannabis plants in your yard, you can just throw some seeds on the ground and some will grow. Some may even grow buds, but if you want it to be even close to what you would get a store, there is a lot of care needed as far as I know.

He should be picked on. It's impaired driving and it's stupid.

Some call it tamjee
Some call it the weed
Some call it marijuana
Some of them call it ganja
Never mind, got to legalize it
And don't criticize it
Legalize it, yeah yeah

This is also where it gets a bit grey.
I don't condone it at all. It's just that, if you have experience with it, and you know it's going to take 1hr+ to hit you (thus, being impaired) are you still driving impaired? Trying to think of comparables but can't really.

4 plants in someones backyard won't smell until you get close to them, they can get real stinky indoors because air flow is so limited.
Buy a specialized high quality air filter and you can grow 4 plants indoors and be odorless pretty easy.

Seed to harvest is 3-6 months (depending on strain and technique). Grow ops are only really worth it if one optimizes the plants and are monitoring them frequently, plants going haywire for only a few days can half their yield.

Yup, very hard to get 'store quality' pot in home grown plants.
Pretty much anything you buy in the dispensaries out here(I'm on vancouver isle) is grown inside under lights. I've grown a few plants outdoors the last couple of summers and even though it turned out pretty good it didn't compare to what I can buy.

But from what I have read in this thread (correct me if I am wrong) it is often difficult to say with any level of certainty how quickly or for how long edibles will affect you.
I don't smoke, and if legalized I wouldn't partake in edibles or drinkable or any variant of it.
I have no issue with legalization, I reckon it is a good idea.
I think we need to sort this type of thing out.

Its like the Mexican border authorities asking you if you're bringing any drugs with you into Mexico.

The funniest part about this is that you'd have to seek out a Mexican Border Official for this to occur. I have never had to speak to or interact with any official while entering Mexico at a land crossing. I've been across at least a dozen times. The border office had people inside precisely one time. All other times there was a sign with a number to call with concerns.

My friend has a small crop in his garage, 6 plants I believe. There is a pretty strong smell, obviously in the garage but also the room adjacent to it. It is a pretty involved process - I believe 4 - 6 months, with pretty regular checking and maintenance. I have seen him put the buds under a microscopic glass to check for bacteria - seems like a fairly involved hobby - probably on the par of making a batch of beer

It seems to vary in how long in can impact you, but the time it takes to set in appears alarmingly consistent. I'd reckon if he had 30 minutes or less of driving ahead of him there's almost no way he'd even begin to feel it. Generally what gets you into trouble with edibles is even if you consume a ton, you may not feel anything for 60+ minutes so you take more. That's a bad time.

We DO NOT have a 4/20 in Canada. I repeat. We do not write dates that way :/

What happens if there is an accident and you get stuck on the freeway for an hour? Like drinking, don't do it without an escape plan. I don't drive myself to a bar, why would you "start the clock" before you know you won't need to drive? Adult decisions, people.
