the market is hammering Cenovus for that deal. 13% down today. Conoco up 7.5%.

According to Bloomberg

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...anadian-assets

Quote:
Cenovus limited its upside on the acquisition by agreeing to make contingent payments to Conoco over the next five years if Western Canadian Select prices rise above C$52 a barrel. Also weighing on Cenovus shares was Conoco’s statement that it plans to start liquidating its holdings in the stock after a six-month lockup period.
So Conoco gets a fat stack of cash, stock it plans on liquidating as soon as it's allowed, and what basically amounts to a royalty payment.

I think it's a combo. They diluted, and the market hates the deal, hence COP up as well.

My company is going through a merger with a Saskatoon company. Should be interesting to see what happens. There will be a head office in Saskatoon, but the executive will stay in the Calgary office.

The people who are from Saskatoon love it there, but a few of the ones that moved there from elsewhere don't. I view it much the same as you, but at least with Calagry we have NHL, Mountains, Airport that goes somewhere direct, City was nice. Saskatoon has none of that.

Don't get me wrong, I was friends with the kids of transplants from all over in the early 90's. most of them hated it and you could tell their parents did too. Even with all the advantages we had Saskatoon still doesn't. However, the kids stayed in the end. Calgary was just too good.

So who knows maybe Saskatoon is better than I think. Still not an appealing choice.

Brad Wall might also be in violation of the New West Partnership Trade Agreement.

EDIT: Looks like he very well might be:

Parties shall not directly or indirectly provide business subsidies that: (a)provide an advantage to an enterprise that results in material injury to a competing enterprise of another Party;(b)entice or assist the relocation of an enterprise from another Party; or(c)otherwise distort investment decisionsunless such subsidy is to offset a subsidy being offered by a non-Party orto an entity not subject to this Article.

Saskatoon has a nice river valley and a pretty cool hipster area (Broadway) but beyond that it sucks. I have a rental property there and I'm glad that I haven't had to go out there in about 4 years. They have a lot of decent lakes and boating opportunities around Saskatoon as well.

Oh come on, Torontonians wouldnt know what to do with nature if it came up and bit them in the ass....which it occasionally does.

I wish i had a cottage. I don't really know a cottage really is, but I know Ontarians each have one.

It's looking really bad out there..

There can't possibly be an excuse to raise gas prices this "driving season".

Thanks for the link, great article and a real eye opener.

Some key points for me.

- U.S. crude production in 2018 to average 10 million barrels a day. this is 2x as much as 5 years ago, the record was 9.6 million in 1970.

- U.S. Imports from Saudi Arabia of Crude Oil sank from 1.362 million barrels a day to 615,000 barrels a day last week from a week earlier.

- Expecting lower US gas prices than last year for the "driving" season.

I'm not sure what's more likely, a $30.00 or a $60.00 barrel of Oil in 2017-18.

I was betting on $60 plus moving forward but I think $40 to $50 is going to be the new norm for quite a while. As an unemployed Geologist I obviously wanted higher prices to stimulate the industry but now that I'm employed in the airline industry lower oil prices are encouraging.

$40-60 is ok, but if inventories get out of control again we likely see sub $30 again no?

Just about to start on a project that is supposed to go right up to next break up, sub $30 by X-mas and they probably pull the plug again like in late 2014/early 2015.
