That's true. But some songs are not and it allows me to plug them!

It's in English but I have to pay tribute to Gaelic music.

Here's a dozen

First, just last night I saw these guys play live, and they were in as good a shape as ever I'd say. Legendary Finnish alternative rock.

Alternative / progressive rock from Finland. Song is about the fear of growing old and facing it with your loved one. Love the video.

This band was from Sweden. Still great stuff. Folk with an edge.

Finland's #1 rapper IMO, also sampling folk music.

Someone posted Der Kommissar, which reminded me of these guys, who covered that song. Industrial metal.

This guy is one of the most legendary Finnish artists. Still kicks ass. (Finns might be interested to hear this version, it adds some lyrics to this famous song.) Somewhat Tom Waits / Johnny Cash.

My favourite alternative pop artist. Song is about a firebomb in a supermarket and the resulting societal lockdown / NWO.

An artist from the same label. Varies from low-key twisted first person stories from the dark side of the human mind. And then they can put out amazing rocking grooves. And sometimes it's both at the same time. One of the best live acts I've ever seen, and I've seen a few.

This guy managed to turn reggae Finnish, while staying true to his Finnish roots. Good stuff.

This is my favourite rock lyricist. Classic Finnish rock / pop.

Legendary Finnish avant-garde / post-rock band. Often instrumental. (Video is unofficial.)

And here's the great, great flamenco artist Vicente Amigo. An amazing virtuoso and a true original. From Spain, unsurprisingly.

Some music from Quebec.

My favourite Quebec band, Karkwa. Kind of like a French Radiohead.

Dumas

And just because it's utterly hilarious, some Radio Radio.

Japanese rock never worked for me.. just Japanese pop.

But in general Japanese music has trailed behind Chinese and Korean music forever.

I don't know a lot of Chinese music, but I used to listen to a Chinese band called "Hang on the Box", but they were popular in the J-pop scene I believe.

Although they seem to go in and out English.

Ah Finland. There's a lot right in a country where there are several heavy metal bands meant for kids.

My 5 year old daughter likes the band below, and I don't mind at all.

These guys have the right attitude for this stuff too. In this song a kid tries to cheer up his dad with a big fart and when she's sent to bed without dinner, she starts complaining how her parents are never home and they always tell her to stop doing everything that's fun, so she never wants to be a "stupid adult" (which is the name of the song).

"Diablo Swing Orchestra"
I already thanked you, but I've had so much fun today listening to this band that it needed a double thank.

Here are a couple from a band that I'm not sure I'd say I really love, but they definitely make me sentimental about life up north in 东北. Used to hear these all the time, and I do like them. They're maybe a pretty good representation of what's pop for a lot of the young people in China outside super cities like Shanghai.

And here is just one that I'm not particularly fond of or anything but which I hear a lot around Shanghai now and gets stuck in my head.
