Han Solo is almost one that you don't. If you look at his classic biography, he was an Imperial officer recruit, went through the Academy and rebelled when his commanding officer told him to murder wookie slaves including Chewie. Murdered the officer, was thrown out of the service and then won the Falcon in a card game against Lando and became a hard luck smuggler.

See the problem is that when you have a vague notion of a classic character you don't really want to see it explored and expanded because its going to be disappointing.

See in this movie, Solo is going to have to be awesome and heroic, which ruins what he becomes in ANH. Han Solo changed over the original trilogy, he went from a guy who really didn't care all that much, shot people in bars, swindled people out of money and was basically a rogue, and not really a lovable rogue. So in order to make that change really work in the OT, Han Solo really has to be a guy that doesn't do anything all that great in this movie. Maybe he makes a decision to abandon a friend or betray them cause he's broke. That way when he comes back to save Luke in a New Hope it means something, it signals a change.

But if Han does anything in this movie that's noble, or sacrifices himself then that turn around and the start of the rounding of Han Solo into a admirable character is meaningless.

Its just like, as much as I really like Palaptine and think that he's an unbelievable villain, do I want an origins story of Palpatine, Naboo elected official?

Do I want a background story where Palpatine isn't a bad person, but as he becomes more powerful and becomes a wirlwind of evil who believes he's doing the right thing?

I'm not even sure if I want a Boba Fett origins story, mainly because Karen Traviss or whatever her name is completely wussified Fett.
For every one of you, there is 100 people who think differently. I for one will be very much interested in his origin story on the big screen. I have faith they will do a great job with it too.

Well IMO they nailed Rogue One so I expect this stand alone film to be good as well.

I can't get enough Star Wars.

That's new, i thought they were talking about not doing a superbowl commercial.

There is all kinds of bad speculation around this movie.

I just read it in the Hollywood Reporter which I'd say is a fairly reliable source.

Definitely didn't sound like it was confirmed though.

There was also all kinds of bad speculation around Rogue One too.

One thing I've learned about speculation is to ignore it. Going in expecting to hate a movie you will either be very surprised and love it, or you'll look for reasons to hate it.

I've learned to ignore other people's opinions on movies after they've been released too.

people were a bit worried about the reshoots for Rogue One, but I don't remember them having to do anything like replace the director halfway through filming, or have to get acting lessons for the freaking lead actor.

the infallible sheen is definitely off the Star Wars brand after TLJ split everyone right down the middle. subsequent movies will get more scrutiny and cautious ticket buyers whether it's deserved or not.

I think that this is the first time that I'm not all that excited about a Star Wars movie coming out.

I think that I'm over saturated. I talked to my dad about going, and he was like "I think I can wait for this one to come on TV"

Plus he's getting too old to sit in theatres.

So that era for me I think is at an end.

I'm probably going to wait a bit, allow the excellent reviewers on this site to let me know how it is, and decide if I want to see it in the theatre or on my TV.

I have a lot of faith in Ron Howard. I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

For me, part of the problem is the sheer amount of Star Wars out there in the last few years. It's everywhere. The brand is being diluted, and I don't see Disney slowing it down.

That's kinda like how I felt about Black Panther, then I saw the trailers and now I'm hyped.

Right now I'm kind of meh, but unless the trailer is really bad I bet that as soon as I see it I'll be more enthusiastic.

Han Solo is a great character. Probably the best in the Star Wars universe but I wonder if that's more because Harrison Ford totally nailed that role to the point when I think of Han Solo I think of Harrison Ford. Alden Ehrenreich has his work cut out for him filling those shoes.

So, that probably means there will be a teaser of some sort during the game.

Ooooooo, look at Chewie's bandolier.

I'm too lazy to google it.

Who is the woman? As in the actress. And do we know what her role is?

Will there be a musical performance in the end credit by Lando, because he looks like Morris Day
