Default WD HardDrive not accepting my movie Files over 4GBS

My WD Media Player (1TB HARDDRIVE) wont accept movie files (mkv) that are over 4gbs.

I dont know why.....I have plenty of space left. It takes mkv files that are 2GBS or less.

Does anybody know why? Anybody have similar experience / problem?

What's the file system on the drive? If it's FAT32, the limit is 4 GB per file. You need something modern like NTFS (Windows), HFS+ (Mac), or something else (EXT2/UFS) to have > 4 GB files.

I'm not sure if the player came with the drive (it sounds like it did), but I've seen WD 1 TB drives shipped with FAT32 partitions since they are the most compatible, despite suffering from the 4 GB limitation.

Ya, you're gonna need to format and toss NTFS on it.

It has been mentioned, but it is in FAT32 configuration and you'll need to format to NTFS to put >4GB files on it. My WD harddrive is the same, but I had 400+GB on it and I don't feel like transferring all that to my other, then formatting, then transferring all back.

thanks guys
I ended up converting a few of those larger sized mkv files into mp4's and that considerably reduced the file size, and the quality looks like same on my hdtv.

but I will take those suggestions and try them out!

I had some trouble with a WD My Passport last night- I connected a 2nd one, and it would not recognize the drive in windows until I went into "manage" and allowed it to work.

Good news, I thought it'd be more complicated.
