Yes, I've googled a lot of questions about it, but usually it's a time issue for me.
It's mainly my sons' computer, we got it pretty cheap from some friend of a friend so I got talked into buying it with him.
Have some issues with Wi Fi for Nintendo and now Xbox Live, it's not compatible, so that is causing problems for the other son.

Well I think that's the issue, someone told me to call my cable co. and get a wireless router. The one we have now is not. I just haven't done it yet, because I've been too busy. Will that take care of it alone, or will I have to do something else as well.

Also, it depends what you are studying. If you are doing anything business-related, like I did, stick with a PC, but if you are all artsy-fartsy like my friends (duh) then the Mac works.
I would venture to say half the problem is the fact it's a Dell. I've had my HP laptop for almost 4 years and it's still humming along. It was basically the most expensive model I could get at the time from HP, I didn't cheap out on anything.

Well no mac for me. I am planning on taking International Business. PC it is. I will just buy a monster. Too bad you can't set-up a laptop like you can with a desktop. ie. making it yourself

What's wrong with Mac for business?
Mac was the answer for me, but can't say it will be for everyone. Depends on your needs I guess, and some people still feel the need to have to tweak and fix their computers all the time. Go PC if that's you.

I switched to Mac about 4 years ago ... you'd have to remove my fingernails to make me switch back. Any time I sit down at a windows PC (and oddly enough I'm at one now) I physically shudder.
It depends on what you need though. As winsor said, if you really want to tweak every little thing like the capacitors on your CMOS or whatever the f, go PC. I used to enjoy that stuff but now it drives me crazy. I love that I can turn on my mac near any wireless network anywhere and with a password I'm connected. The same can't be said for my roommates' PCs, for example. They can't even agree on what wireless protocol they're going to use. It's ridiculous.
I was sitting at my gorgeous 24" iMac the other night looking at all the windows and how it all kind of just "was there" ... it sounds dumb, but it's very zen. Even Vista, which was a sad attempt to pic up some of OSX's visual appeal, can't compare to that. If you like pretty spaces, soft light, aesthetics, go Mac. You might have to make a few sacrificies (some PC games, etc.) but, yeah. Anyway I'm drunk and rambling.

I've used the same Dell Latitude D400 laptop since 2004 and it's been solid. Still using it today and probably won't invest in a new computer until this one dies since I also have a work laptop to use when my personal one craps out...

Vista : crap
XP : at least its better then vista
Mac : it never dies unlike microsoft, except _______-and ________ and _______ and _____-- and _______
The solution, clearly, is Ubuntu.
(i use XP myself, i'll take the better interfacing at the cost of it crashing all the time. and i just can't stand the 90's look of Linux)

Agreed. All the really serious porn addicts use Ubuntu. The server features of Ubuntu are the best for managing a large porn database.

I am into year two of waiting to hear an actual valid argument as to why Vista is crap.
I'm on to Windows 7 soon.

Apple makes the best laptops on the market. The Macbook Pro's and the Macbook Air are wildly overpriced, but the standard Macbook is priced at market value for the components it contains. Edit: Just one caveat on this, ever 4-6 months Apple refreshes the internals of the Macbook line. Towards the end of that cycle, they get a bit overpriced based on the rest of the market.
If you want a desktop, a custom build PC is where it's at. Hell, I even use Vista since it blows the pants off XP in the 64bit arena (Vista hate is so 2007).
I use an Apple Macbook as my laptop and as my primary work platform. It's far more resilient, easier to maintain and a better user experience then XP.
Many people seem to think Apple's products are just vanity items. These people havn't got a clue what they are talking about.

Yeah, since SP1 came out I haven't had a crash. Vista is different, and MS doesn't do themselves any favours by moving and renaming things that still do the exact same task, but the OS seems pretty darn solid to me.

Well, the issue with that statement is that there are people for whom Apple products ARE a vanity item. For some people I swear you could put an Apple logo on an etch-a-sketch and they would rave about the clear sharp line.
Apple makes some great products, but aren't the Holy Grail of computing. MS has made some crappy products, but aren't near as bad as many people make them out to be.
Fact of the matter is the competition is good for everyone.
