Morgan Klimchuk had one assist in a 3-1 loss vs Kootenay (Sam Reinhart had 3 assists).
Ryan Culkin had one assist in a brutal 11-2 loss vs Val d'Or (Anthony Mantha had 4 goals).
Emile Poirier was scoreless in a 4-1 win vs Shawinigan.

I think that everyone knows he can put up points but the issue for him this year and going forward is his Andy Delmore level defensive play and Butlersoft physical play. That is where he is going to need to improve if he wants to make it any further than a minor league scorer.

I think one of Roy's problems is that he's been pretty skinny. I see him listed at 175 lbs. on some sites but he's now listed at 195 on the Brandon site. Another 10 or 15 lbs. could change his game. I wouldn't call him Butler soft either as he's willing to mix it up although he isn't a great fighter. He seems like a smart, willing to learn kid with skill. You can't teach skill so I'm happy we got him and it will be interesting to watch his progress.

Here he comes to the defence of a teammate in one of his 6 fights.

Sure. But he was projected as a first because he put up 53-points in 69-games in 11/12 but he saw that drop to 39-points in 72-games in his draft year. If he can get back on track offensively he will be a value prospect for a 5-round pick.

But yes, he needs to get stronger and better defensively if he wants to succeed in the AHL and NHL.

I don't disagree with the other criticisms of him, but the bolded isn't true. The Wheat Kings were brutal last year - Roy was second in team scoring in goals, and 4th in points. No offensive defenseman is going to put up great numbers without a decent set of forwards.

Luckily, that shouldn't be as much of an issue this year.

He plummeted in the draft projections all seasons. He was ranked high prior to the season because he produced at a 0.77 PPG pace in his sophomore season. He dropped down to 0.54 in his draft year.

There might have had a reason for the drop in production. Regardless though that drop in production was at least part of the reason he dropped to the 5-round.

The biggest reason for Roy's drop in the prospect rankings was the lack of progression on the defensive side of the puck.

Think about it this way.... if you have the foresight to realize he played on a bad team and it affected his point totals, so did the scouts.

Roy's offensive game had little to nothing to do with his drop in the rankings.

All guys who also had the same hype as the new draftees do now, lets hope for a better success rate.

Not really. Maybe Howse, but for the most part, no one outside of Calgary thought any of those guys were decent

I higly doubt ppl outside of Calgary think much of our guys right now even. It's obviously better then before but still need these guys to prove themselves.

True, but consensus views on our prospects now is far, far better than them. The end result may be the same, who knows, but the potential is far higher
