Mar.15th:

Wranglers go down 5-4 in a SO to Abbotsford. They are now 4th in the Pacific Division, 7th in the West, and 14th-overall (yikes!).

Cooley stops 22 of 26 in 63:34. He is 19-13-5, with a 2.75 GAA (20th), and .911 SV% (tied for 13th).
Solovyov was third star, with 2a, and a +1.

Getting points were: Kerins (1g, 1a), Stromgren (1a), Bishop (1g), Barrie (1g), Frk (1a), Kupka (1a), and Morton (1g, 1a).

Cooley must be hurt, as Murphy backed up Ignatjew.

Watching the highlights from last game - Ty Tulio is a name that really rolls well off the tongue. If I were doing PBP I'd want him to score every game.

Cooley lets in eight goals in a 8-2 loss to the Bakersfield Trash Vultures.

Yikes.

Plus they were up 2-0 after the first.

Not sure the ship is gonna get righted before playoffs.

On Dec 21, Cooley was 15-4-0-3, 1.88 GAA, and a .940 SV%

Today, he is at 19-15-5, 2.91 GAA, and a .906 SV%

Quite a downturn.

On a PTO, yes.

Though often, a PTO is added on at the time of the regular signing.

Gonna suck to have both nhl and farm team miss playoffs.

Send Trent Cull back down to right the ship.

Well they are free-falling, but they are still 6 points up on Tucson with 8 games remaining for each team. And their next 2 games happen to be against Tucson.

Personally I don't think it's a coincidence the farm teams struggles really seemed to start once around the same time Kerins was sent down with 4 points in 5 games and nobody new from the farm was called up for the Bahl / Zary injuries.

If you were Kerins, Stromgren, or even Honzek it probably was a bit of a shot to see somebody else get the call when Zary went down and it looked like a scoring forward spot opened up.

And if you're one of Solovyov, Poirier, Kuznetsov, or Grushnikov it was probably a bit the same for you to not see anybody get a shot once Bahl went down.

The motivation for all these guys, especially coming into the season, was that there was going to be lots of opportunities for young guys to get a look at the NHL level this season.

And really that hasn't been the case for anybody that started the season on the farm - very few opportunities for the call ups this season.

Of course losing Trent Cull had a big impact too...but the same thing kind of happened in 20-21 where the team really struggled late after the big team was in playoff contention and it became clear Sutter wasn't going to call up the youngsters.

Everything went downhill when Barrie was sent down.

Or maybe they aren't good enough to compete as the games get harder and more meaningful.

Either way, if the above from SuperMatt18 is true then they are just confirming what Flames management thinks about the Wranglers prospects with their terrible play lately.

Some of the kids still have lots to learn.

They're also very, very young on the backend

Poirier - 22
Solovyov - 24
Brzustewicz - 20
Aspirot - 25
Kuznetsov - 23
Barrie - 100
Tindori - 70
Grushnikov - 22

Listening to their head coach on the Fan, he mentions teaching them a lot and how they can be more consistent shift-to-shift and trusting eachother, I think they're purposefully playing the slow game.

That's a very valid point that I hadn't considered. They may not go deep in the playoffs due, at least partially, to this, but they will gain valuable experience playing important minutes in however many games they play.
