Draisaitl is Patrice Bergeron compared to McDigIn. Pissy is the better player full stop, Mavi is the most overrated player in the league. More nights than not he is complete liability to his team.

Oh yeah, it was a smart signing. Sign your stars and fill in the rest and the Oilers have done that so far and I suspect they'll do it with McDavid too, despite the fact that dissentowner is more than 100% sure of him wanting to go to Toronto despite no other insiders even hinting at it.

To paraphrase Darryl Sutter 'it's a draft and sign your stars' league. Hopefully the Flames eventually have stars to sign to big contracts like Draisaitl and McDavid.

When McDavid leaves he'll feel like he signed with the wrong team.
Let's be honest, he's a very elite player.... but the Oilers still won't have their happy ending.

This. One of two things happen, McDavid stays and breaks the bank and the team won’t have any money to do anything going forward. It will start to eat at Pissy because he is a far better player than Mavi but doesn’t have the hype train behind him, and there will be ongoing tension between the two and on the rest of the team when the losses start piling up.

Other scenario is Mavi walks, the Oilers grossly mismanage the available cap and go back in to a decade of darkness and Pissy asks for a trade after the first season Mavi is gone.

When the Oilers get eliminated I wonder if there is a chance the Leafs could acquire Mavi. He may very well have had enough of Edmonton and look for an exit to his hometown boyhood dream team. A signed Marner could be the base of a trade from the Leafs side.
