Another woofer of a game.
You must skip through the entire broadcast in a hurry these past couple weeks.

The season is d-o-n-e.
Fire the coach as the one thing I suppose.
Fire the coach and hire a competent one. Let the new guy evaluate what he has (including prospects) for the rest of the season, and overhaul the team in the off-season. Whether Tre should be allowed to oversee this ‘process’ is another question.

Incredible that there are fans out there who still can’t acknowledge this team has a lazy, coach-killing core and culture. Ward may be a bad coach, but players can still play hard for a bad coach.

Read Lucic’s comments. The guy spent most of his career in a winning culture. He knows how players have to approach the game in order to win consistently in this league, and what the culture in the room looks like. And he knows his teammates here don’t have it.

But hey, maybe a new coach will find exactly the right sequence of buttons to press to get these guys to buckle down and work their asses off. Because we can’t expect the players themselves to show some self-motivation and pride. That’s not the Flames way.

What NHL team will Ward be coaching when he leaves the Flames?

Aside from the fact that the coach sucks, I think the simple math is:

1) Added real top 10 NHL goalie
2) Giordano went from a top 5-10 NHL defenseman to a 2nd pairing one (?)
3) Tkachuk checked out (for whatever reason)
4) Lost their only defenseman who would carry the puck

It seems that the 3 negatives outweigh the one positive, even if we assume everything else is equal. Add to it that the coach is a Greg Gilbert in the worst possible scenario (playing the same teams over and over), and Bob's your uncle, as the kids say...

He will join Playfair, Keenan, B. Sutter, Hartley, Gulutzan, and Peters in the “Forever a Flame” pantheon. There is nothing that tops being a head coach in Calgary, so nobody ever tries.

I think it’s time to retool the core. We’ve gone through our 4th coach with zero success. The core has not been changed, it’s just been added to or had players to be added to surround them. Big changes are going to needs to be made, but I think i think one of Gio/Gaudreau/Monahan need to be dealt for the right price. In the offseason if there is a blockbuster deal to be made for a top end player (doesn’t have to be Eichel), then try and go for it. Lots of changes are to be made, and perhaps these changes won’t be made until we get a new GM. I am guessing we are going to have to ride out Ward this year and hope he comes up with results with a different group, otherwise, he’ll get canned. I know we all hope and see that he clearly is a problem too, but it seems like he has a longer leash right now than other problems around the organization.

There’s just so much bad going on in this organization that I don’t even know where to start.

I think monahan is a major conundrum also. We've watched a perennial 30 goal guy become a vacuum of offense 5on5 over this season and last. He was basically good at one thing and average at everything else. He's lost even that 1 attribute that made anything above average. Sad

But why not bring in an experienced head coach as part of the process of evaluating the team before you make changes.

Seems like a pretty reasonable thing to do.

I will say I've been beating the bad coaching drum all season (and last) but seeing how this team has quit twice in this Sens series has me really questioning them as well.

I would love it, but I think the window for that trade closed when Stutzle was still the 3OA pick. Flames would have to add now IMO.

If there ever was a window
Which I doubt
Trade would make no sense for Ottawa

Teams in the middle of a rebuild don't trade the fruits of their rebuild... Sens are in the phase of accumulating young assets to build around not to trade for less cost controlled assets.

These Ottawa proposals don't really add up guys.
The brothers played on different teams, nothing to reunite. Both are playing the same position and both are top line players (assuming Matt is just pouting rith now). Hard to fit that in.
Would having brothers on one team be a positive or a negative from a team perspective?

I don't see how these two end up on the same team.

At this point let these losers slide to the basement. Get the pick. Fire the GM. Then bring in new GM. Trade core players for picks. Start over.

Hiring a proven coach is actually fairly lower on the needs scale.
