As a team that can't seem to get past the 1st round, I clearly know nothing but I have become a believer in what others have mentioned here often: The sim punishes teams that are too strong.
So I wasted a few minutes this morning:
Based on a 28 team league, the top 28 rated forwards would be considered a "star", the top 84 would be top line, the top 168 2nd line, etc.
For D, the top 28 are "star", top 56 are 1st pairing, top 112 are 2nd pairing, etc.
Some fell right in the middle of a rating, so I just used the .5 to mean some would be above that and some below. anyway, here's how ratings break down, roughly:
Star forward 78.5ov and above
Top line forward 75.5 -78ov
2nd line F 72 - 75
3rd line 69 - 71
4th line 67 - 68
Top D 76.5
top pairing 74 - 76
2nd pairing 71 - 73
3rd pairing 68.5 - 70
#1G 79+
Backup 75-78
I omitted the 4th line, but here's how some teams (based on posts in the roster thread) pan out with the above.

I've been in the position of having multiple stars on my team and it's never led me to the promised land. This year, I go on with no start forwards and wonder how it will effect me.
Flames and Sharks have amazing rosters but I wonder if having 2 or 3 x star forwards and 2 x star Dmen will cause the SIM to punish them. Same goes for teams like Florida who have 2 x star players
This is just for sh1ts and giggles but I'm personally following a breakdown like this to follow teams and see how they make out.
