Steve Armitage is/was so good, that voice just got you engaged regardless of the sport. His swimming, rowing, and speed skating calls were just terrific.

He was actually pretty sick a few years ago which I think is the main reason Elliotte Friedman subbed in for Steve for the swimming at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

He grew up down the street from me in Dartmouth NS, although he was a fair bit older.

A pretty good sportscaster with a long career, forever immortalized in CP lore by the Mike Richards parody.
The man deserves more than a passing mention in the E=NG thread.

i was just thinking about this the other day.
Back in 88 in calgary, somehow stupid CTV got the rights and instead of Don Whitman or Steve Armitage or Brian Williams doing the calls for our home olympics, we got Lloyd Robertson and a whole bunch of rookies.
It was sooo disappointing. At least we got CBC back for the summer Olympics in Seoul.
