There's kids dying in Africa that could use that salt. Greed.

So, maybe I'm missing something, but can somebody explain the point to all this? From what I see, he wastes entire floor spaces to design intricate patterns using salt that nobody can ever walk on...so he's wasting salt, livable space, and absurd amounts of time. Yay. Now he's successfully wasted my time too, jerk.

That's pretty sweet. No different than ice sculptures as far as "uselessness" goes, and besides, art and useful aren't really on the same page.

Second, I appreciate quality art. That, this is not. Anybody could do this...anybody. Just because it's salt, it's something special? If he had used sugar, would we still be as impressed? Ridiculous.

In your opinion. In my opinion, I agree with the philistine comment.
Also, I am pretty sure I couldn't do this. So I guess not everyone could do it.

Are you saying that anyone could do this if they have a lot of salt, a large floor space and the time to do it?
Actually you couldn't do this. I couldn't do this and the majority of people on this board couldn't do this.
I'll give you some paint, a brush and a canvas. How about a chisel and some marble? Could you paint or sculpt something on par with a professional just because you have the tools?

How do you know what I, or others on this board, can or can't do?

No, because those things take actual skill and talent. Are you actually comparing salt on a floor to sculpturing and fantastic works of art?

Doing something like this actually does take skill. It may not be your "cup of tea" when it comes to art but it's still art and it's still extremely difficult to do.
Replace the salt with paint. Does it become art then? He's using the floor as a canvas and salt as his medium. Is it not art because its not permanent? Like it was said in another post, this can be classified in the same category as ice sculptures. It takes talent, patience and desire to create it. Because of the medium, it just won't stand the test of time.
You and the majority of the people on this board (myself included) wouldn't have the patience or skill to pull off a piece of art like this. If you think you can, go for it. Try it on a smaller scale. Pour some salt on the table and create one of those leaves. Now think about how long it would take to make thousands, all different. If you don't think that would take some artistic talent and patience. you're probably a philistine.

He could use sand.
And wow, RT14, someone piss in your cornflakes this morning? Who are you to decide what artistically impresses people? Some people actually paid to see that room that that "artist" covered in cheese. Beauty, my friend, is in the eye of the beholder.
