5 dead after golf course dispute leads to shooting, neighborhood fire
Quote:
An argument that started on a golf course has left five dead in Santa Maria, Calif.
According to Santa Maria police, a long-standing feud between three men boiled over Friday at the golf course of the Casa Grande Estates. Minutes after the trio was witnessed arguing, gunshots were fired. One man was fatally shot inside the Casa Grande clubhouse while another was found dead on the grass nearby, according to the Santa Maria Times.
After the shooting, police believe the suspect returned to his home. Moments later his home went up in flames following a small explosion, Police Chief Phil Hansen told the AP. The fire spread to nearby homes before it could be put out by firefighters. A situation made worse as ammunition was exploding from the gunman's home.
"All throughout the firefighting efforts, ammunition was cooking off," Hansen told the AP.
Authorities initially found two bodies— one of which is believed to be the gunman’s— in the rubble, but officials said on Saturday an additional victim had been located. Their names will be released after the coroner’s office confirms their identities.
Neighbors told the Santa Maria Times that one of the victims is likely the suspect's son.
Santa Maria police have not released any other information, including what started the argument, at this time.

Usually you have to watch Fargo to see stories like this.

This is a true story. The events depicted in this film took place in Minnesota. At the request of the survivors, the names have been changed. Out of respect for the dead, the rest has been told exactly as it occurred."

If it stays at one dead it will barely even register on the radar in America after tomorrow morning.

Sounds like 3 dead so far, one of which was a 3 year old.
The answer is clearly more guns. If everyone had guns this would never happen.

Fox news will probably spin a vampire narrative.

At this point, it would probably take a large-scale military operation to disarm America enough to make a dent, and that would result in full-scale civil war.
It’s too late. This is reality in the United States from now on.

Or a generational-long social culture shift to a rejection of firearms as a pillar of society. It's never too late to shift, but the U.S. needs the right leaders in place to reject the notion of guns, shift social practices and perspectives on guns and implement tighter gun laws.
It's possible, but at this rate I agree with you.

The US is deeply ####ed and Sandy Hook was the point of no return. If a bunch of dead kids isn't enough to turn your country around nothing will be.

The Fox narrative will be that good guys with guns shot the bad guy after only 11 people were shot and three killed. So it's a win.

Much like the attitude towards tobacco and homosexuality has changed at the cultural level, it's possible to change the culture around guns.
But Sandy Hook taught us that there is no political will to change anything which is sad and leaves the rest of the civilized world scratching their heads.

Maybe they should take away the business licenses of all gun manufacturers. No new guns except for military and law enforcement. Maybe in 500 or so years all existing guns will just wear out and it can be a better country.

Not really, it just takes a full ban on sales of arms and ammunition, it would then take around 30 years for the guns in the country to slowly disappear due to lack of parts, ammunition and probably interest, throw in periodic buy backs

At this point if there is any serious measure to take away guns from citizens you'll have an uprising. I mean any attempt, whether it's slowing production, taking away ammo. Doesn't matter how you soften it, it'll all register the same in the eyes of gun lovers "They're taking our guns!!!!!!!" and there's just too many down there that will go to war over the notion, now.
