Hey Textcritic I was at the Shrine of the Book today and saw the Dead Sea Scrolls. Very cool.

I saw you list every prospect drafted with a pick traded away and I noted the players we drafted with extra picks that were acquired.

Pekka Rinne - 8th round
Varlamov - late 1st round
Bishop - 3rd round
Fleury - 1st overall
Bobrovsky - undrafted
Crawford - 2nd round
Holtby - 4th round
Hellebuyck - 5th round

There's just no figuring this stuff.

Draft a goalie in the first round you might get Price. You might get Dan Cloutier. You might get Leland Irving.

Awesome!

In 2005 while I was still a PhD student I spent a full week in the Shrine of the Book, inside the vault, assisting one of my supervisors with work on the ACTUAL large Isaiah Scroll whose facsimile is on display in the centre of the exhibit.

I love that place. The entire Israel Museum is pretty incredible.

It's just too much money to sink into the position. If Bobrovsky hits the open market this summer he is not signing a contract for anything less than $8.5 m. And he could get a deal close to $10 m.

No. There are other possible good options out there, and Treliving is probably going to have to be creative to fix the problem.

To go back to Jiri's comment a few pages back about looking at the players... so, to cut to the chase, is the team's problem that their top 2 offensive players are party animals who just care about offense and don't want to check? What are we to do with that? This sounds like the Seguin issue in Boston. They opted to dump him, got nothing in return, but seem to be just fine. Dallas hasn't done anything with him except pile up offensive stats... What's the answer here?

I don’t know about the party animal thing.

But do you blame Monahan and Gaudreau because they are not better players than what they are? Or do you question the guy who is building the team?

Say what you want about those two, but they have out performed their contracts.

Trade them. Or one of them. Boston survived, and maybe you’ll get someone back who cares to be here.

Honestly, I don’t think you even watch hockey. I sincerely believe you are here only for fighting your social justice wars.

But seriously, how could anyone say that Varlamov is a better goalie than Bobrovsky after seeing them both play in recent seasons?

I don't blame Treliving for this team woes. I know it's easy to point the finger at him as he is primarily responsible for putting this team together, but it's early days yet and I personally feel that the players all have a lot more to give than what we have seen over the past few games. We seen how good this team can be vs the Preds and Bruins. Their problem is keeping the intensity up and realising that nothing is given in this league, it's earned by hard work.

By looking at the team in front of them in addition to their own play. Outside of Varlamov’s injury hampered season two years ago, he’s been equal to or better than Bobrovsky every year, and he’s done that on a team that has been This year he’s playing lights out while Bobrovsky is checked out (playing almost as bad as Mike Smith).

Bobrovsky also falls right off in the playoffs, badly.

Look at the two goaltenders again, think about the way they’ve played over their careers, look at the teams in front of them, look at their recent performance, and look at their (limited) playoff performances. If you still think Bobrovsky is elite while Varlamov is merely “good” then we’ll agree to disagree.

Hmm ...

Always earned, never given.

That could be a good motto.

Varlamov has always been the best option. Hell, I wanted the Flames to get him before the season and run with a Varlamov/Smith tandem. He's damn good and will be for a while.

That’s amazing. Yes am finding most museums here in Israel absolutely fabulous.

Has been a great trip except waking up to see Flames’ losses! With the afternoon start the Caps game is on at 11pm tonight so can watch...

Sorry guys, back to hockey....
