Good take

All depends on what those standards are.

I suppose the end goal is contentment. How you get there is your prerogative.

Maybe cause I've been there, and after enough over-indulging it just feels wasteful after the fact. Maybe those people are wired differently and don't mind it. And that's fair. But I just couldn't.

I'm thinking if you have a good balance of things then it's easy to feel good about how you spend your time and what you're getting out of it.

I know some people who approach games like a story and invest in the narrative of the games, so that's an interesting perspective as well, and adds an element to the experience.
I used to play NHL 20XX for 6 or 8 hours in a row and all it would do is make me frustrated and angry. Eventually I stopped cold turkey and now I've found a variety of other things to do that make me frustrated and angry. Balance is important.

"side hustles"

It's not normal to need to have a side job to supplement your "normal" job. It's a weird obsession we have in (especially American) this culture with work, and how if you aren't monetizing every minute of your life then you're not working hard enough.

So many women I know who have become Beachbody coaches or sell cosmetics stuff or skin care stuff or essential oils, some idiotic MLM scheme, in addition to working a 9-5 job, and I just have zero patience for anything like that.

Look, I like my job just fine, I'm damn good at it, but it's just there as a way to pay for all the stuff I want to do.

Work to live, not live to work.
Problem is so many people want STUFF... buying STUFF makes you happy, makes you LOOK successful. More stuff = more happiness, right? Consumerism and materialism are far more pervasive in our north american society than I've observed in many other countries. Eventually people here think it's "normal" to replace phones, cars, internet plan/subscriptions, clothing, etc... every year or two. When is enough.... enough? And so to pay for their cr@p, which often needs it's own storage area (basement, room, garage, storage facility), they need to get another source of income... and that's why so many people need to be workaholics going until they're 65-70, if they last that long without getting stress-caused problems.
