Salim Nadim Valji @salimvalji
Clearly an enormous attachment between Rittich and the organization that signed him as a free agent.

When recently asked about the possibility of a trade, he responded:

“Don’t try and make a story here. This is my team and I want to stay with this team as long as I can.”

Hopefully Rittich eliminates the Oilers in the playoffs and tosses his stick afterwards.

It is.

Nashville and Washington are now the only two teams to have never retained

The way Rittich has played against the Leafs this is not surprising. Some of his best games over the past few years. I’m okay with the return.

Thanks BSD. He turned into a way better piece than I ever would have thought when we signed him. I wish him the best!

I’m surprised they got a 3rd for him. That’s a good trade by Tre.

Awesome.

Now hopefully they can retain 50% on Ryan and find a taker for him too.

Get as many picks as you can, this season is a write off anyways.

This is a good piece of work by Tree! Happy to see it.

Really happy for Ritter. Hope he absolutely crushes it! He was a great Flame.

Flames now have two 3rd round picks in the 2021 and 2022 draft. I like bullets in the chamber.

This does make me sad. I loved the personality that Rittich brought day in and day out. Was never the same after the Oilers game, where the media jumped on him for over celebration. Good luck Big Save Dave.

CapFriendly @CapFriendly
The Calgary #Flames now have $810k in projected cap space which translates to $3.6M in non-prorated deadline space after trading goaltender David Rittich to the Toronto Maple #Leafs (50% retained)

A guy like Rittich sticks out for having an interesting personality. It's the kind of thing this league needs more of IMO. It's too bad things didn't work out with the Flames but with him and Brodie in Toronto I feel I'm in the bizarre position of hoping the Leafs do good or at least come out of the North Division.

I think thats about as good as you were going to get. I would have been really surprised if we got a 2nd out of someone.

Good to add a pick
Hell, it could even be Rittich. Toronto still has Anderson so I’m betting they don’t extend him.

With Toronto's position it will likely be a pretty late 3rd but still, acquiring assets is what this team needs to be doing right now, and thats still going to be a top 90ish player, nothing wrong with that. Keep selling assets and acquiring picks.

More than I thought we would get and 50% of the 15 games left is only about $500 g's. San Jose is paying the same for Toronto's 4th round pick

I'm ok with this move. I'm gonna miss Rittich though. Here's hoping he goes on a long playoff run with the Leafs. Of course it would be extra special if they end up beating the Oilers.

Go Dave!

Thanks for everything Dave, good luck in the future!

Thus ends the myth that the Flames refuse to retain.
