Interesting thing is if you look at the shot mix the Flames give up you can estimate what goalie would be a better fit.

Over the last three seasons Flames have given up:

HDSA: 1375 (4th least)
MDSA: 1510 (19th)
LDSA: 2364 (9th)

Based on Holtby’s numbers the Flames would have given up 437 goals over the last three seasons.

Based on Markstroms numbers over that time they would have given up 419 goals.

So based on the actual shots against the Flames gave up and the save percentage for these goalies Markstrom would have been better by ~18 goals than Holtby. Of course no goalie is playing all the games, so more like 12 goals better if you assume 65% of the starts.

I generally agree with you though. Give me the goalie that saves low danger and medium danger goals but maybe doesn’t make a huge save over the goalie that maybe makes a huge save but let’s in a softy.

Just for reference the Actual Flames goalies gave up 453 goals against.
So technically, the Flames are better off with either of those two over what we have/had. Thats the long and short of it.

Number 1 centre Flames have been desperate for since Nieuwendyk.

30 years old, 4 more seasons at $8.5 million per.

Gaudreau-Stamkos-Tkachuk
Dube-Monahan-Lindholm
Lucic-Backlund-Bennett
If that's all it would take to get Stamkos, then I would be in. Despite all his injuries, I think he'll still be productive (when healthy lol)

As do I.

Considering cap and health I am not interested in Stammer.

He is a great player but he cannot stay healthy.

FWIW, he has missed significant time with injuries during the regular season twice in his career, and has played in every game during the season 5 times.

I think it is moot anyway, to the extent he will waive to be traded, I can’t imagine it’s to Calgary.

When he was a UFA, he didn’t resign until the last moment, and it was clear he gave up AAV to stay in TB. He won’t give that up lightly.

This could definitely be an off season that sets us up for a while with some of the players available.

This will be interesting.

Seems to be little room to take on Stamkos' salary. I'd be for it, as you look at the injuries and to my knowledge they're not recurring ones that have come back time and time again, so I don't believe it's his body breaking down. When I look at the make up of the team though, if you take him on, then the bottom half of the roster suffers on how much can be spent so it handcuffs the team. Unlikely there's a fit with the Flames.

Many are clamoring to sign Hall at a salary that would likely eclipse that of Stamkos. What happens down the roster doesn't seem to come into play in that scenario.

If I have a choice between the two at the same price, I would want SS 11 times out of 10.

That'd be an interesting option for CGY. But how does one go about working in Stamkos?
If you are curious about retention on Stamkos, this is what it would look like for both teams, If you want to go higher than 20%, you can easily extrapolate from the numbers I used.

you were not wrong, though.

I wouldn't want Stamkos on my team. Take what some of you were saying about perhaps Hall being injury prone and turn it too 11. He's become that really nice looking car that sits in your driveway because you can never get it to run. you can brag about having it, but can't use it.

IMO it is not a big deal because there is zero shame in being gay and so many amazing people identify as such. However if you said we were all Oiler fans, that crosses the line.

Stamkos>Hall

If the lighting can retain a little having Monahan, Stamkos, Backlund as your centres would make the Flames pretty deep down the middle.

Yeah...that 95 point pace he was on this year screams old and washed up but still looks good.

Players get hurt. Good players get hurt. Nothing suggests he is any more prone to injury than anyone else. This is the same thing Backlund went through at one time...is he still injury prone now? Or did things just regress to the norm?

the guy is one of the best players in the world as far as offensive abilities. Always has been. That doesnt just go away because of a groin pull after a 3 month lockdown.

I’m pretty sure that Stamkos has been playing mostly wing for the last couple years. There could be a reason for that. That said he would look pretty good on the rw for the flames.

What are you talking about? Hall has been injured for 10+ games almost every season in his career. Stamkos has missed 10+ games 3 times, one of which was a broken leg and the other 2 were a knee injury and a core injury. He also missed most of this years playoffs with a LBI, but I would not take injuries in the return to play as a sign of everything as there were shorter camps and only 1 exhibition game after 4 months off, so some injuries were bound to happen. He's hardly what I would call injury prone.

Hall costs cap space
Stamkos cost like just starts with Dube and the 19th pick and we still need to add from there
