Jonathan Vance a great Canadian piece of garbage

https://globalnews.ca/news/7780124/c...ellie-brennan/

Quote:
Maj. Kellie Brennan says former chief of the defence staff Gen. Jonathan Vance told her he was “untouchable” and that he “owned” the military police. She also said “he fathered two children with me.”
Global News asked Vance in February whether he had done so — he said no.
“On a personal note, he fathered two children with me. He’s not responsible to pay or to have those children under his responsibility. It’s all up to me,” Brennan said in testimony before the House of Commons status of women committee on Thursday night.

I've always been utterly fascinated by submarine and anti submarine warfare. There's an absolutely great book called Unrestricted Warfare by James DeRose, It talks about how the US Navy in WW2 changed its submarine commanders from conservative captains to the risk taking ultra aggressive skippers that shaped modern day submarine tactics. It covers Captains like Mush Morton of the Wahoo, Dick O'Kane, George Grider. While we talk a lot about the roles of carriers and destroyers, and even battleships in WW2, Submarines had a huge role in strangling Japan, and demoralizing their Navy.

When we watch movies like the Hunt for Red October, Crimson Tide, and other movies that feature Submarines as shiny clean ultra modern boats, we forget that the diesel electric boats in WW2 were tiny cramped, dirty and smelled of diesel fuel, seat, cigarette smoke and open bilges.

Another reason I think Das Boot is such a great movie. You can almost smell the crew when you watch it

I'm just finishing up another read of Red Storm Rising, and it has lots of great ASW scenes set in that early 80's timeframe.

Also, why oh why can't we get a sweet mini-series from this novel?

Red Storm rising is such a great book, Every once in a while I open it up and read it. Its the rare book where you can pull out a map of the world and follow it along with the various battles major and minor.

Its a bit dated now, I mean the primary weapon at the start was the F-117 Night Hawk and first flight 688 subs.

The Video game at the time was one of the better war simulation games out there, though the awesome Harpoon series of games was better.

I'd love to see a mini series, but I think it would be so incredibly dense and there's a lot of scene jumping.

I'd love to see a mini series from the perspective of the USS Chicago with the appropriate fog of war.

Still loved the chapter in the book where Toland stalks the Kirov battle group. That was one of the great tense pieces of writing that Clancy was really good at.

Not even the F-117, it was the original rumoured F-19 stealth that had the rounded wings. I remember having a model of it as a kid.

A lot of the early Larry Bond books are very similar, and the two partnered up on Red Storm rising.

Red Phoenix, Cauldron and Vortex are excellent books

Red Phoenix refights the Korean conflict with modern weapons, the character arcs are really good.

Cauldron - fights the War in Europe against a resurgent Germany/France alliance that wants to economically dominate

Vortex is probably one of his best, and plays around with the idea of a Ultra Nationalist party taking over the country and going to war with their neighbours.

We'll we're certainly learning about how easy Justin can lie in terms of the questions around the Vance file. First he didn't know, then he learned about it from a global news story. Then his office knew, then Justin knew about it but didn't think it was a me too situation even though a senior advisor was pretty clear on it.

There is no way that his senior advisor in Katy Telford didn't brief the PM on this whole file.

Yeah, the whole thing for lack of a better statement grosses me out.

The ever changing stories, the shut down of the committee investigating Vance, Saijan's story not carrying water. Now the highest person in the PMO knew about the details of this, and we're being led to believe that she didn't brief her boss?

Just reading the testimony about Vance, how a guy with so little character and honestly honor got to that position. And yeah Harper and his office had a twinge on this but they didn't have a whistle blower so Vance very easily lied and covered it up.

But even Vance's work and lies in the Norman trial with changing names in documents to get around disclosure.

We've had some really good CDC and senior officers through the history of the armed forces, but with Vance and McDonald both being caught with the hands in the cookie jar and the Military investigators literally either ignoring claims or attacking the victims to protect officers. Its embarrassing.

Honestly in a proper world Saijan should have been fired, not allowed to step down but been fired. But he's such a massive fund raiser for the Liberals that he's better protected then a mafia button man.

Its all so gross, and it makes me really angry.
