On the news it said any flights through connecting cities would need a negative test before moving on.

Canada update "We need to be more proactive and less reactive."

First few minutes discussing India and sitting there waiting. Reactivity versus proactivity.

New variant detected in Texas. Purportedly longer lasting infection period and highly contagious among young people.

Given we found out about this today, it should be in Alberta by now.

I don't mean to make light of it, but that's also the elevation profile of India...

Spoiler!

Can I get some feedback from people here? My partner got a manicure/pedicure as a gift at Christmas and booked it when things were looking less crazy. As cases started rising again I asked her to delay it as I viewed it as an unnecessary risk, despite it not being on the restrictions list. So she delayed. But she told me today it was rescheduled for this week. Well needless to say I was frustrated by that and said I still think itís an unnecessary risk. Sheís frustrated with me and I think just wants some self care time with her Mom and sister. Iím feeling like a jerk for always being the one who is the bummer but I still feel like itís an unnecessary risk.

My question is; Iím not above reevaluating my position on this, should I be? I realize thereís a big mental health aspect here, but do rising cases/variant cases, being in an indoor space for 1-2 hours, etc out weigh that? Iím doubting myself because I think she could use this, but I also worry about all the factors involved in going for a manicure/pedicure.

Woob, we are at peak cases. I'd just ask why it wasn't OK before when we had a lower peak, and now it is fine, and that now that we have variants. Let her think about it for a few minutes. If she insists, at least wear an N95 mask or 2 masks. But it's not a risk I'd take at this point. In a month we should be in a much better situation. Tough one to deal with, sorry.

I would feel the same way. And it's not just her risk. It's yours.

That's tough dude because peace in the home is worth almost any price; however, you are absolutely right here and she is absolutely making a mistake by virtue of taking a totally unnecessary risk. It's not like you can wrap yourself around her leg to prevent her from going, though...hopefully she comes around.

Yeah, Fuzz; I told her if she was just delaying it a couple weeks, then there was no point in delaying it in the first place. I envisioned an indefinite delay of sorts until things get less nutty. I do not enjoying being the voice of caution and safety all the time, but as Jiri says, it is my risk and my kids risk as well. However, Sliver makes an excellent point too; peace in the home is important. Ugh.

My question, which I think you may have answered, is would she reconsider if you stressed your concern to her? If we were in that situation I’m certain my wife would postpone. It seems that yours likely will not. It’s unfortunate because it’s a totally unnecessary risk. Tough spot. I’d discuss with her some of the horror stories and there are many of these things causing big spread and even deaths.

I think you can try to convince her that the experience isnít going to be the same. I mean, I wouldnít think it would be very relaxing or enjoyable at all right now.

Are you guys eligible for AZ? If so delaying 2 weeks after your dose would reduce risk by about 75%. If arenít AZ delaying by 6-8 weeks until 2 weeks post vaccination would also significantly reduce risk.

Obviously there is a spectrum to your personal comfort with respect to risk, supporting businesses, etc. But it's been 16 months and the hope is that we are getting to the light at the end of the tunnel.

Personally, I would be ####ING PISSED or very embarrassed to get sick/infected (or worse) at this point for the sake of a social get together to do your nails.

It's a personal call though, I get you.
