Oof, this one hurts. Bat out of Hell became my favorite album when I first heard it 30 years ago, and has never left that spot. His writing was so good, so powerful.
RIP

I think it was Steve Berlin in a podcast I heard last week saying Steinman was a terrible producer - that every decision Jim made was 100% wrong. But he could write over-the-top lyrics like no one else.
People tend to associate Steinman with bombastic pop ballads, but many are unaware of influence on Sisters of Mercy as a producer. He even co-wrote some of the hits:
Also, did you know that the original idea for Total Eclipse of the Heart was a vampire duet, later actualized in Tanz der Vampire. (Or at least that what Steinman claimed)?

If it were possible to wear out a CD I'd have worn out both Bat Out of Hell I and II years ago. That music was such a huge part of my coming of age years - discovered Meat Loaf the summer of '93 riding around rural Alberta in a survey truck and never looked back.

I made a decision a goodly while back that I would keep my physical lp collection at 50. Buy a new one, give one away.
Broke out my copy of Bat Out of Hell yesterday for a listen.
