Just reading on my end but supposed to be the best hitter in the draft. Was a legitimate consideration for #1 overall according to scouts. Hands and eye are supposed to be top class. Speed and fielding solid, lots of positional versatility. Hasn't hit for a ton of power so far, also may be signability concerns, he might be over slot at 5 considering he was a consensus top 2 guy in the draft.

This is almost like when the Flames got Tkachuk, but even more fortunate it seems.

Really weird Martin fell to #5 but I’m ecstatic.

Nice that he has versatility but a few comments here that he’s looked good at CF. I’d be very excited if he could stick there for the Jays. Big need would be filled

Not gonna pretend I know a lot, but extremely happy we got this guy. Last year I went to Nashville to watch the Titans play. Obviously Vanderbilt is in Nashville and it just so happens we were walking around by Vanderbilt and walked by the baseball stadium. A bunch of the baseball players were there ready to hit some balls around. We watched for a bit and looked up the players and saw Martin was a top prospect. We actually were able to talk to him for a minute. Figured I would now keep an eye out for him and see where his career goes. Love that he’s on the Jays. He’ll probably be my fav player in no time.

Huge win for the Jays to get Martin. Martin looks like a top of the lineup bat, who can play multiple positions. He played with Bichette when they were younger. Based on his plate discipline and his hitting ability he will move quickly through the organization.

Kinda sounds like Zobrist. Multiple positions, great eye/hit tool so-so power. Hope they get him signed (and seriously... look at that flow, between him, Gurriel, and Bichette the Jay's will lead the league in flow above replacement).

I was hoping somehow the Jays would be able to make a deal to get Veen, but picks seem to be at a premium in first round more and more in baseball. This should be an interesting year with only 5 rounds.

This is a pretty good comparison, but I would add that he should be able to get to peak Zobrist pretty quickly. Like 31 year old Zobrist at 22. Didn't think that they Jays had a shot at this guy. He's the sort that has a very long predictable career, and if he can be a dependable lead off or second in the lineup guy, for years before he hits UFA... Pretty big win.

You can’t trade picks in baseball

Well that is a pretty exciting result. Honestly to see Keith Law have him ranked as his 1st overall prospect is pretty damn encouraging. If they can convert him to a CF that would be fantastic, but I am also happy with a decent RF who can rake as well.

The talent in the pipeline for the Jays right now is pretty incredible.

From what I read Martin is opposite of Nick Gonzalez in that he showed good consistent exit velocity and that with his swing he should be able to improve his launch angles and power numbers. Whereas Gonzalez playing at favorable altitude doesn't have the same consistency in the exit velocity.

Hopefully the Jays can pay up and get this guy signed.

Man, seems to good to be true.

Get him signed and hope he's gonna be as good as projected.

I usually like this time of year. Baseball getting into gear, the Raptors repeating, the hockey playoffs just ended and draft is coming up....

Baseball needs to pull their act together. The Jays need this development year, and now having possibly the best position player in the draft in the system... come on already!

It will be interesting to see how the Jays deal with their next pick. They will probably have to sign Martin to an above slot deal, considering he was projected to go top 2 and his agent is Boras.

Will they go with another above slot guy, or go with a below slot guy as they will be running low on signing money after signing Martin.

Right now I am leaning toward Daniel Cabrera. Left handed bat with power potential and corner outfielder.

If things go as planned we could see all of Groshans, Martin, Kirk and Moreno make their debuts in late 2021 or early 2022, Orelvis Martinez possibly the following year.

A lot of talent on the way up through the middle of the diamond.

Rumblings out there that the Jays are very high on Canadian OF Owen Caissie and may snap him up early...possibly even at #42.

Jays take CJ Van Eyk, a college pitcher, with the 42nd pick.

The short videos I have watched it looks like he has nice action on all of his pitches. He isn't going to blow anyone away with velocity, sitting between 90-95mph on his fastball.

Taking pitchers early always makes me nervous. You have to worry so much more about injuries.

I can see them taking another college player in the 3rd, and then taking chances on high school players in the 4th and 5th.

Possibly Casey Martin in the 3rd.
