I dunno about the Royals being the weakest. I actually kinda admired their model that one or two years.

Here is what that inning had:
Top of the inning:
Not just a lead change but a lead change on a crazy 1 in a million play
Umpire got the play wrong initially, reversed the call which is also pretty rare
Gibbons gets irate, doesn't get ejected (also rare)
Player on the bench (Saunders) gets ejected
Fans throw stuff on the field
Scenes of moms crying as they are clutching their newborns who are also crying
Gibbons issues a protest, also rare
Bottom of the inning:
3 consecutive errors to load the bases. (that throw by Moreland was so so bad).
Pompey interfering with the catcher with his sweeping slide.
Another Umpire Review on said slide
Hamels leaves the game with the bases loaded having given up precisely 0 hits.
Blooper by Donaldson just squeaking past Odors glove tie game.
Bautista 3 run home run with the greatest bat flip of all time.
Fans are still throwing things onto the field
EE at the plate trying to calm crowd down, Dyson says something, Benches clear
4 Toronto PD officers now on the field to remove a fan next to the Jays dugout.
Play literally stops and Rangers are sitting on the field stretching.
Tulo pops out with two on, third out inning over right? but its NOT OVER
Somehow during commercial break the benches clear again!
That was the craziest inning of baseball I have, and likely will ever witness.
EDIT: That was also Josh Hamiltons final game of baseball of his career.
|
One thing that stuck out for me, just how weird baseball can be - After those 3 errors, in which the Rangers didn’t get an out, then they get an easy out on the Donaldson bloop hit, which somehow had to be scored a fielders choice.

It was a fielders choice. A choice to play it really poorly

That Royals series still stings so much. I was pretty impressed with how diplomatic Bautista was during that sportsnet replay saying “the better team won”. I guess that’s part of being and acting like a professional in sports. But Alcides fricken Escobar turning into Mickey Mantle batting .478, giving up a 3-0 lead in game 2, RA Dickey being atrocious in game 4, that Moustakas “home run” all still hurts.

Anyway, MLB's restart plans likely means the Jays will have a temporary home this year, since the government is going to mandate 14 day quarantines for any international travelers for some time yet. Perhaps Buffalo gets to host major league baseball for the first time in 130 years.

I fully agree with the end of the post, however I take issue with the start of the post. Kansas City took San Fran to the bottom of the 9th with the tying run on 3rd base in game seven in the World Series the previous year and had the best record in the American League in 2015. The sample size of two playoff seasons and 364 regular season games would imply that the statistics are not completely perfect at identifying everything that goes into being a winning baseball team rather than the other way around.
As for weakest world series winning team: I present to you the 2006 St. Louis Cardinals. Regular season record of 83-78, fluked out being in a horrible division and then got hot for a few weeks in October.

That 2014 SF Giants team that KC took to game 7 stands out to me as another recent contender for pretty weak teams to win a World Series. 2nd in the NL with 88 wins with pretty awful Padres, D-backs and Rockies teams in their division.
Buster Posey is really the only guy on their team that stands out to me in their batting lineup. Madison Bumgarner was obviously their ace and is the reason they won the WS, but it was him plus a bunch of really average pitchers way past their prime in Peavy, Lincecum, Vogelsong and Hudson.

Or a more reasonable solution would be to make an exemption for sport teams, but with a Trudeau lead government, reasonable is not a guarantee.

Would you rather people talked about guns in here for a week or two?
Dunedin just completely renovated their ballpark, and was supposed to be unveiled for spring training this year. If they have to play anywhere outside of Toronto, and there are no fans, limited fans, I would assume that would be the first choice.

Sorry, the Canadian politics thread has only been a topic thread for gun nuts vs. tree huggers for the last week or so. Weak joke. The Dunedin facility does look pretty nice though. It only seats 8500, but that's not really an issue at the moment, and it makes travel easy for visiting teams.

Honestly, it probably is. I like Buffalo a little better though since it aligns the team closer to where it would ordinarily be. Keeps them closer to Boston, Baltimore and New York geographically. Though playing in the same metro as the Rays makes a lot of the travel mighty easy.

I like Buffalo for all those reasons too. My gut tells me Dunedin will be where they play though. Rehab, training, dining, player development staff etc all in one place and all are apparently state of the art facilities.

I thought this was a pretty sad read at the behind the scenes with Halladay's troubles and home his last day.

I always find it fascinating that the San Francisco Giants have three World Series in the last 11 years and absolutely nobody cares.
