Very random and I don't think I've read it yet on the thread.
Does anyone remember a park or something in the South where you could go and build a fort / treehouse kinda thing and stay in it? This memory is really vague so I apologize if it's not much to go on.
There was something in Southwood, just south of where the Southland LRT station is now. It was like a summer day camp that kids could attend and build stuff like playhouses and forts. I remember registering too late and missing out as it filled up very fast.

Right, that's pretty much it! That location would be consistent with where I'm thinking (I lived in Cedarbrae at the time).
It's a real vague memory though... I can't remember a name at all!
It is still there - it connects the Dino Park to the Zoo.
ah ok. I remember it used to be the entrance to the zoo, as there was a little booth where you payed to get in just after the end of the bridge. Could be we just entered that way instead of the main entrance.

Didn't some lady jump off that bridge or throw an infant from there or something 20-25 years ago? Anyone else remember seeing these guys, for the first time, as a child : http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fi...ion_Statue.jpg
One of my first intros to artwork The tradition lives on as my kids always want to stop and stare
I always thought the bridge at 1:27 was the zoo bridge but I'm pretty sure its the bridge across the elbow in Sandy Beach. regardless another good promo for Calgary.

Late to this thread, so haven't read the whole thing, so forgive me if this has already been mentioned.
I seem to remember as a really little kid in the early '70's that you had to walk over a swinging bridge to get into the Calgary Zoo. I could be remembering it wrong and thinking of another zoo, but pretty sure it was Calgary. I also remember they used to let you sit on the dinosaur sculptures in the park there and get your picture taken. A few years later when my brother got old enough to go you couldn't touch the sculptures anymore, and the last time I went (about '99 or so) to take my little cousin the swinging bridge was no longer there.(if it ever was. getting old is a biotch)
Before the actual Prehistoric Park was built they had a bunch of "Dinny-like" Dinosaur sculptures in the actual zoo - over by where the tigers and stuff are now. You could sit on those and what not.

Thats the bridge that is by that old school on Sifton Blvd
the bridge I am nearly positive is this one in the middle of the park. also the shots of them running on the ice next to the river has to be from the west side of the river as it is that much higher up.
Actually it is this one http://news.webshots.com/photo/29126...65990785soOcpk
At Sandy Beach...we used to run repeats on the hill east of the bridge and our legs would be shaking going back across that bouncing bridge after 5-10.
Ice cream pails. Not sure if they still sell ice cream in that way. Handy for storing stuff in at your weekly Beavers or Cubs get-together.

Laser Illusions was downstairs where part of Sport Chek is today. I remember drinking a couple Big Bears in Fish Creek Park when I was 15 and vomiting several times in the Laser Illusions stairwell at the exit.
Was always a mixed feeling... nude statues, yes, but they were included on the CBE logo that appeared on our standardised exams and report cards, and thus somehow less sexy.

Dinny is still there, and was the first dinosaur at the zoo, from like the 1930s or something. Legend has it there is a Model T inside of him. Also, the Den is named after him (full name, or at least former full name: Dinny's Den).

brilliant! I have vague memories of this place and sometimes half convince myself it was all just a dream as this would never be allowed these days. we actually built some piece of crap and were allowed to sleep in it over night. I assume there was parental supervision, but not enough of it

I saw Ghandi there with my HS social studies class. Field trip and everything.
ditto, in fact for some reason I saw Ghandi there twice, once with Social class, and a second time my parents dropped a buddy and I off there and somehow forced us to see it
