CP Top 10 Mock Draft
At this point I don't think much is going to change in the draft predictions. When you look at how the analysts have it, their top 4 picks are very similar. I know it's been talked about before, but I figured everyone's officially top 10 draft predictions would be fun.
I remember seeing one of many last year's predictions and thinking at the time it seemed fairly accurate:
1. (F) Nail Yakupov
2. (D) Ryan Murray
3. (F) Mikhail Grigorenko
4. (F) Filip Forsberg
5. (F) Alex Galchenyuk
6. (D) Mathew Dumba
7. (F)Teuvo Teravainen
8. (D) Morgan Rielly
9. (D) Jacob Trouba
10. (F) Sebastian Collberg
They had 6 forwards and 4 defensemen going in the first round. This was very different when the draft actually took place.
1 (F) Nail Yakupov
1 (D) Ryan Murray
1 (F) Alex Galchenyuk
1 (D) Griffin Reinhart
1 (D) Morgan Rielly
1 (D) Hampus Lindholm
1 (D) Mathew Dumba
1 (D) Derrick Pouliot
1 (D) Jacob Trouba
2 forwards and 8 defensemen.
I think some defensemen might make their way up this board as well. Here are my official picks for the 2013 NHL hockey draft:
Avalanche
1. Seth Jones (D)
Panthers
2. Nathan MacKinnon (C)
Lightning
3. Jonathan Drouin (LW)
Predators
4. Darnell Nurse (D)
Hurricanes
5. Nikita Zadorov (D)
Flames
6. Sasha Barkov (C)
Oilers
7. Rasmus Ristolainen (D)
Sabers
8. Valeri Nichushkin (RW)
Devils
9. Elias Lindholm (C)
Stars
10. Andre Burakowsky (LW)

I get the feeling there will be less off the board picks in the top 10 this year. Seems there's an elite 3-4 players, then an excellent 6-7 picks following. I don't get the sense someone will jump from ~15 to the top ten like Hampus Lindholm did last year.
Avalanche
1. Seth Jones (D)
Panthers
2. Nathan MacKinnon (C)
Lightning
3. Jonathan Drouin (LW)
Predators
4. Sasha Barkov (C)
Hurricanes
5. Valeri Nichushkin (RW)
Flames
6. Sean Monohan (C)
Oilers
7. Darnell Nurse (D)
Sabers
8. Elias Lindholm (C)
Devils
9. Nikita Zadorov (D)

10. Ryan Pulock (D)

Colorado #1: Seth Jones
Florida #2: Nathan MacKinnon
Tampa Bay #3: Jonathan Drouin
Nashville #4: Alexander Barkov
Carolina #5: Valeri Nichushkin
Calgary #6: Sean Monahan (I want Lindholm but the extra 2 inches in height and his availablility to play next year wins the Flames over)
Edmonton #7: Zac Fucale
Buffalo #8: Hunter Shinakruk
New Jersey #9: Elias Lindholm (he slips due to other teams more pressing needs)
Dallas #10: Alexander Wennberg

I really do not see the Preds going with a Dman. Their needs are pretty clearly defined as needing a franchise center. If Barkov falls to them they would be crazy to let him drop.
The Canes are already considered to have a good stock of Dman in their prospect pool. What they are lacking is high-end scoring talent. Nichushkin actually makes sense for them to draft.
I could see the Canes surprising everyone by going after Fucale. After how hard they blew last season right after making the blockbuster Staal trade the Canes might be a team that is thinking long and hard about beefing up in the goaltender position. Ward is an excellent goalie but I do not think they have anything in their system for when Ward is injured or declines. Grabbing Fucale now could hopefully have him ready to play in 3 or 4 years.
But really, they would be best off grabbing Nichushkin now, adding him to their NHL roster immediately and hope that Ward stays healthy.

I am starting to think that Monahan will go in the Top 5 and we will have to "settle" for Lindholm.
Edmonton will then get a choice between Nichushkin and Nurse.

My Prediction:
Avs: Jones
Florida: Mackinnon
TBay: Drouin
Nashville: Lindholm
Carolina: Monahan
Calgary: Barkov
Edmonton: Nurse
Sabres: Nichushkin
Devils: Wennberg
Stars: Ristolainen
The first three players a drafted as expected, Nashville really likes Lindholm and takes him at 4, Carolina sticks to past trends and takes a North American born player in the first round (since 2003 they have only taken two Europeans in the first two rounds of the draft, none in the first round), this leaves the Flames with Barkov at 6.

I believe, the first three picks are practically a sure deal, no point of repeating them from post to post.
I have zero doubts Monahan and Lindholm will be picked before the Russians in this draft just because of the KHL-effect realities.
NSH - Monahan
CAR - Lindholm
Then it gets interesting and all a guessing game.
CGY - Barkov
EDM - Nurse
BUF - Zadorov
NJD - Wennberg
DAL - Morin

Are we going to have a poll where someone will say the Flames should pick a certain prospect and then when the Flames do, that person will freak out about it and then get banned and we can all see it and laugh about it again this year?
That was fun!

No way we pick a defenseman here. Especially one who is further away than any one of the Centers that will be available. Here's mine (it's a pipe dream but expect the unexpected):
1. Colorado: Jones
2. Florida: MacKinnon
3. Tampa: Nichushkin
4. Nashville: Drouin
5. Carolina: Monahan
6. Calgary: Bakrov
7. Edmonton: Lindholm
8. Buffalo: Nurse
9. New Jersey: Ristolainen
10. Dallas: Shinkaruk

I think draft predictions are fun, but can we leave the "no way this happens" stuff for one of the other 9 draft threads? This thread wont be very interesting if everyone goes with the consensus. Arguing that someones predictions are wrong is a futile exercise.

I agree pretty closely with the FC guide, I see Domi dropping a few slots though.

I think Flames' list might look something like this:
5. Monahan
6. Nurse/Shinkaruk
7. Shinkaruk/Nurse
8. Lindholm
Believe me, it's not what I want. Lots of rumblings that the Flames are very high on Shinkaruk.
