Flames TSN: Treliving would like to add an experienced right side d-man

Dreger did say it would most likely be done by trade than free agency

Eh, I guess. Maybe they move Kylington for somebody? That's the only thing I can think of that'd make sense.

The Flames already have two top-four RHD so I have to imagine this would be more of a depth move?

Why? Tanev and Andersson are legit and we have two guys who are comfortable on the right side in Kylngton and Nesterov for the bottom pair. So unless you are trading kylington for a safer option to pair with Valimaki then I don't see the point in spending assets on this

I'd be ok with a third RHS Defenseman.

Third pairing guy playing his offside is sub-optimal at best.

Haha...

So the flames want a R-side defenseman. And they know there's a capable R-side defenseman available via UFA who would love to be here and would probably be cheap. But they'd rather give up assets for someone else instead.

I'm sure there's no hard feelings though

I think this move is more to add depth and to mix up the make up of the team a bit. Maybe a Bannett + Kylington type of move

Boston could be a good trade partner. Sweeney has said he'd like to add depth to his left side D.

Clifton for Kylington

Who is it that you say would love to be here? Hamonic?

Hamonic 1 yr was what I was thinking. One of those "if no one else is offering here is a bone deals."

Hamonic declined to discuss a new contract during the season and then opted out of the return to play. Short of flat out telling the Flames he didn't want to come back (which he may have done) I would imagine they felt it was time to move on.

Hamonic opted not to play in a 2 month bubble, he's not going to play at all till there is a covid vaccine.

Why give up young talent in Kylington. Maybe as the expansion draft goes we could use help there. Like a couple people on here said, I think Mony should be changed if we can get good value and get back a centre.

Depending on how things play out with the location of the AHL team this year the Flames could have a bit more flexibility than we think to take advantage of a team struggling with the cap.

I could see them looking at Jason Demers from Arizona with full retention. He'd cost $1.97 million for one year.

Totally agree. That is why I was asking the dude who would "love to be here"

Hamonics time has come and gone on the flames blue line I think.

The Flames were rumoured to be after Ristolainen a while back. Maybe those talks resurface.

Hope this is not true. I actually like the makeup of the d right now. I like the battle for the 6 spot. Also I’m done with having the best D on paper lineup. If he is making trades it should be to improve the top 6 forwards.

Sign Vantanen. He'd be an amazing 5-6 guy.

I’m genuinely concerned that we seem to think rolling out the same top line again seems to be the plan. We need a top end playoff performer...

Is it possible that this was a tip that Dreger received prior to the signing of Nesterov?
