Reading more, sounds like a pick based on momentum of his development.

Let’s hope for a big D+1 year!

Well, those 3rds and that high 4th are going to be fun to watch. Hopefully the pace picks up here.

He's big, but he can skate. Not a flashy pick because of his offence, but you need guys to play defence. The fact that he's doing so well as the youngest guy in a tough league with guys much older than him is impressive.

Flames scouts do well with defensemen. I'm good with this pick.

This pick seems like a waste of time.

We'll wait and see I guess.

Screams of Kanzig, Sieloff, Wotherspoon picks. Fingers crossed he becomes a bottom pair guy I guess
Lol nice to see the optimism.

This guy was steady against stud draftees in the NCAA at age 17. He made huge strides this year. Tons of room to grow. Great skater and makes an excellent first pass. A modern shut down D- not a Hamonic or Stone type.

Our scouts have grabbed Andersson, Kylington, and Fox in the 2nd/3rd rounds lately. I'll trust them!

Kuznetsov’s skating is a bit of a work in progress. His top-end speed and acceleration going forwards is about average, or maybe a touch below. However, he is a lot better in his backwards skating (comparatively), as he is above average. He also has good edgework, agility and pivots. This allows him to get around the ice well enough and play an effective defensive game. He is strong on his skates when playing against his peers. His balance is good and he has the ability to win battles for loose pucks and clear the front of the net. However, there is room to add muscle to his frame and this can get even better.
I like the sounds of that for a defenseman. Add some muscle to a lanky frame and some power skating lessons...he'll be fine.

The description not Kanzig/Sieloff/Wotherspoon. Seems like a better skater and puck mover.

Flames will eventually need the skillset he will bring. Maybe no more than a 3rd pairing shut down guy but still a solid pick. Nothing wrong with him at all.

Always need some meat to go with the sizzle.

One thing about a draft eligible player with size, it is one thing to do it against peers in the CHL and another to do it in the the NCAA. He is playing against much more developed and mature players. Him standing out under those circumstances is a lot different than a Kanzig or Smith dominating 16-19 year olds.

It seems like a big for the sake of being big sort of pick that has never panned out for this team.

Admittedly, I don't know much about this player, so I'll wait and see how he develops.

Looks like a left handed Pavel Kubina. His 18 year old season in the NCAA will be the real test.

Not sure how much I should even share from the Hockey Prospects blackbook thing but there's a lot up positivity from scouts on this pick. Some comments about being potentially first to mid second rounder.

The biggest thing is that there's already so much to like in his game despite the fact that he was a 17 year old playing in his freshman year with inconsistent ice time.

As much history as Flames have had with some defensive defensemen in the second round, that sounds more like trying to categorize those picks and viewing this under the same lens when they're still individually different players.
