A lot of noise when Jones about to be traded it would be a terrible deal. He has lived up to it.

I have never seen it happen, but I suppose if you scored at the last second, you would end up 1 for 1, but if there is even a second left, you go 1 for 2.
It is an interesting statistical quirk.
Edit: just checked the game sheet and the Flames were officially 50% (1 for 2) on the PK, with Pospisil being the only penalties called.

Oh! That makes sense! Okay, I see what you're saying now.

That Jones trade was terrible from day 1.
He was a guy that already had questionable play for Columbus.
Then you traded Boqvist (8th OV) , 2021 1st (12th OV), 2022 1st (6th OV) , and 2021 2nd (44TH OV) for him.
(They did get a 32nd OV back but still).
And then you give him a $9.5M a year contract too.
Rare to see the huge overpay in trade value combined with huge overpay in contract value combined on the same deal.

Those 1sts were Sillinger and Jiricek for those scoring at home.

The funny thing is that Columbus doesn't have much to show for it now compared to what they received

He was on the ice half way through the resulting 5 minute power play, so it appears that he is OK.

A bit off topic, but I do think they should focus on a powerplay efficiency stat based on PPG goals per 2 minutes of powerplay time. Deduct for shorties against and that would be much more telling.
That said I'm sure that's already done...I haven't bothered to find it.

On a 5 minute PP, if they score, it starts a 2nd PP and if they score again, it counts as a 3rd, etc.
I remember once, the Jets scored 4 goals and thus ended up 4 for 5 and I thought that seemed kind of unfair - hard to imagine doing much better than scoring 4 goals, and you're still not perfect (whereas scoring on a 2 minute PP is a perfect 1 for 1)

I, like the others, never knew this. Of course, 5 minute penalties are a different beast. Overlapping penalties are the bigger issue - Flames can draw a penalty while killing, and get a 10 second powerplay at the end. They get a 0 for 1 on that power play and an identical 0-1 if they fail on a whole 5 minute major (according to what you just said).

Yup. It's all pretty silly, and it should go by time, as everyone keeps saying.

Which...is kind of funny.
Athletes require confidence, which is why there are a multitude of things that they do. For instance, when I was a soccer coach? The keeper needs to warm up and be ready which is why either I or one of my assistants work with him.
Why?
Because the shooters need to 'build their feel' and want to score, but if you're blasting a dozen shots past your keeper in warm-up it kills his confidence whereas if they blast none past him it kills the shooters' confidence.
So one assistant plays 'goalie' and lets the shooters shoot and score because he doesnt need to stop the shots and another or myself plays 'shooter' just to warm up the goalie's hands and reflexes because I have no need to put the ball past him.
Everyone gets what they need.

Well...lets be honest...he's kind of earning it. In spades.
He was pretty bad.
He couldn't even pout and throw a temper tantrum effectively.

Thank goodness. CHI would be pretty scary if they had a deeper talent pipeline.
Right now they look like EDM with only one of Drai or McDavid.
I really hate CHI. Back to the #### head Burish days, making fun of Morrison when he got hurt all those years ago. Chelsea Common and a team full of ###### bags. Happy to see them flailing and I hope it never ends.

Jones has had his struggles for my guys, but, IMO, the WORST D-Men on our squad are Murphy and Brodie. Jones, is over-hyped, yes, and should be no better than a 2nd pair guy, but, has some offensive upside. Murphy and Brodie are stone handed pylons. It was odd, but, I felt, when we had both Jones brothers, that Caleb was better at, actually, playing defense.

In the first meeting, I thought murphy was awful. Last night, it was hard notice to notice Jones

The Hockey News did an article on that many years ago. Unfortunately, the idea went nowhere, probably because the math involved (simple division) was too hard for media executives.
