IMO, Nemisz makes Kostopolous expendable next year. If his offense translates to the NHL level, he just might make Moss expendable (and I'm a big Moss fan)

Depends what for. Moss is much more of a straight line player from what I've seen. Nemisz's talents lie in his ability to stickhandle pretty well and to cycle the puck decently. I remember in Windsor he used to dance around someone and take a shot.

Yeah I think Bouma will make TK expendable.

If Moss prices himself out, then Nemicsz will take his spot.

I think Bartschi will make a real push next year.

Those 3 are probably most likely.

On defense, Sarich and Hannan will be UFA so if they don`t retain them, they`ll have to replace them. I think Carson will be able to take one of those spots and they were probably hoping for Breen too, but he doesn`t seem to be progressing as well this year.

Brodie is too similar to the other guys already up and with the way Smith is playing, I think you have to consider locking him up for more than a year. I wouldn`t be shocked if Brodie was traded as part of a package to get something. The Flames are very mobile on the backend right now and they are all relatively young. They also have Wilson and Henry in Abbotsford who both could do what Brodie can.

Don't count out Carter Bancks, either. He's an every-shift player like Horak, although he's been battling to stay healthy at times.

He has no flash to him, but he is also pretty sound o positionally from the games I watched. My guess is that the scouting team thinks he can develop into a defensive style defenseman, which in my opinion makes him a safe pick, which is usually underwhelming but when you a take a much more 'risky' pick in Granlund 10 picks later I can see why they selected him.
Actually I think there depth on defense is more along the lines of :

#1 - Joe Morrow
#2 - Derek Pouliot

#3 - Tyler Wotherspoon
#4 - William Wrenn
#5 - Troy Rutkowski

#6 - Josh Hansen

#3-#5 are interchangeable.

David Brown has been assigned to the Las Vegas Wranglers of the #ECHL, leaving the #AHLHeat with two goalies.

Negrin gets called up to Abbotsford because of Brodie's call up to Calgary.

Good.

Hopefully he and Wahl play so well, that they never see the ECHL again, and end up eventually graduating to the bigs.

Had a really good chat with Troy Ward today for the Flames Yearbook. Lots of stuff there that I won't be able to use in the prospect overview, but he's really impressed with [a] the level of preparedness of the players this year and [b] the tightness between players on the team. Maybe because of last year's team having a dozen 20-year-olds, but apparently everyone gets along really well and it's a very cohesive group off-ice.

I was at the Victoria/Edmonton game and Brossoit looked quite good. The two goals that got by him were both unstoppable. He looked calm, poised and confident. Keith Hamilton, on the other hand...

Somehow Victoria is above .500 (10-9-1) with a -22 goal differential in 20 games. Prince Albert is 5-15-2 with a -20 in 22 games.

Oil Kings are a very talented team. I think they will do very well this year.

Heat win 5-3 over the Aeros tonight.

Up 4-1 late, Kolanos got a double minor for high sticking.

Aeros scored two quick ones, but the Heat potted an empty netter to salt it away.

Kolanos 2g 1a (5 shots)
Rheault 2g 1a (7 shots)
Nemisz 1g
Wilson 2a
Laing 2a
Mikkelson 1a

Irving with 28 saves on 31 shots for the W.

Markus Granlund has been pretty dominant in an U20 tournament in Finland so far, with Teemu Pulkkinen. I think Conroy's there, if I recall correctly - I think he mentioned that on some video. 5 assists against the czechs and 1+1 against Russia. Doesn't mean much, but it's still nice.

Some crummy "highlights" here, don't know if they're geoblocked:

Turner Elson gets a goal and an assist to move his points streak to 12 in the last 6 games. He's now at 18 points in 17 games. Who was saying he sucks?

Good stuff.

The Flames scouts wanted to draft this guy, but ran out of picks so in order to make sure they got his rights they had to give him a contract. Must have seen something in the kid in order to do that.
