Which is why i said to improve via trade. I fully dont expect to land tavares as he has better options. But we can definately trade one of our current defenseman or d prospects plus someone like ferly or bennett to improve our top 6. Im not saying to do a deal just for the sake of it but i am sure there is a deal out there that can be made to get another top 6 player

I didn’t say it did.
I was simply responding to the erroneous statement that most players don’t maintain their production over a full season.

I believe they could still chose to give Colorado this year's pick. How crazy would it be if they ended up moving Karlsson, Stone, and Duchene all before the start of the Draft and then let the Avs have the 4th overall pick on Friday, going all-in on last place next season?

Considering the state of their team, the status of Karlsson, and the fact that it isn't an overly strong draft, one could very easily make the case that they should in fact give up this year's pick.
What a mess they are.

yeah, i think the smart play would be to trade Karlsson and accumulate as much talent and picks as you can... that also might mean trading Stone...
bite the bullet, knowing next year will be awful... but maybe you get the shot to draft a kid like Jack Hughes who is looking like a kid that is very very high end...and the infusion of young talent/draft picks could mean a quick turnaround for Ottawa's fortunes
not sure if the Karlsson situation can be salvaged even with the trade of Hoffman... not sure what Dorian was doing in not trading him at the deadline, if he knew there were these kinds of issues. Instead, Karlsson became bitter and Dorian allowed Hoffman to lose a ton of value.

Which was not my statement to begin with. My point was that very often in injury shortened seasons a player's pts/gp will appear higher than their average.

Gotta love the Canuck fans always trying to pimp Tanev out. Glass-man makes Sami Salo look like an ironman. Tanev can barely survive a regular season, how is he going to survive and contribute to a long playoff run?
And contending team would have to pay him $4 some million per year to play half a season AND also give up assets for him in a trade?
No smart GM in their right mind should be trading for Tanev or relying on him for a Stanley Cup run.

Then watch them finish Last and get bumped to 4th again.

Yeah, we only heard of the Hamilton trade while it was happening.
Pretty much the same with Hamonic last year.
The guy swings hard and swings fast. When it comes to player movement, Trelivings regime has done a remarkable job of keeping info close to the chest.
I cannot think of one trade that was widely telegraphed since he came here.
Smith? no one knew
Elliott? Draft table deal.

Your not acquiring Simmonds to have him on your third line. He would immediately play our first line.

It's not about stacking one line in today's NHL. Ferland is a good 3rd wheel on that line and has proven chemistry, and has improved significantly year over year. The Flames need to balance their attack and improve the bottom 2 lines - you do that by spreading good players throughout the lineup.

He very well could be top line if he outplays ferland and gallagher. Its about aquiring scoring depth on the right side. Those top 3 lines are deep and interchangable.

Did you listen to what BT said? They are not looking to spend big money via UFA. I thought the whole JT pipe dream would finally be put to rest after he said that.

Honestly if any team pays more than a 2nd or a project prospect they are crazy. Canuck fans love calling Tanev a top pairing D man when in reality he is a one dimensional guy who over the past few seasons has started to turn into a pylon. I saw him get walked multiple times last year, he has become a lesser version of Kris Russell.

My God that second line would be fun to watch. They would draw a penalty every shift or take one lol.

He flat out said at the STH meeting if a player like Tavares hits the market he would go after that player. He mentioned that the player would want to come here though.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Anyone listening to 960 right now? Kerr & Boomer discussing trade possibilities this weekend, spitballing, but Boomer saying he has heard the Flames covet Brady Tkachuk (not a surprise) but then they hint at Dougie moving to obtain the draft pick that could get Brady.
Obviously pure speculation, but not sure I'd like that.
