He's going to be their number 1 d (once Karlsson is traded), and as such should be paid as such. Or so his agent will argue ha.
Also, if he's going to be doing double duty as an Alberta MLA, he needs the pay. Cody Ceci plays for the Sens, not Joe

Sens requested 3.35M. Which i think is pretty fair value for him on a two year bridge. They should have come in lower i think. -

I think 3.35M is his QO, so they can't go any lower.

Yes they could. The Flames requested less than the QO value for both Kulak and Hathaway in their arbitration filings (however, both were signed for/awarded more than their QOs).

Ceci is bad. Not sure I'd want him even at $3.35 million.

That's ridiculous. It's what you get when you're 'one of the best players' on a bad team - you're 'valuable' to the current team, but not overall.
I think both of those numbers are generous. But 6m is outrageous, and I hope arbitration does not just pick the middle ground here

Mark Stone wants $9 million per year and the Senators countered with $5 million per.

Wow, that is a massive difference in values. I think Stone is worth about 6 mil per season but I can definitely see him demanding that much money to eventually be traded.
I would welcome him on the Flames if the cap worked out.

A very strong defensive winger who just put up over point-per-game? Easily worth more than 6M. It’s Melnyk’s Senators, so not surprising, but that is actually an insulting offer by the Senators in my opinion, even for arbitration standards. I think this will be one that skews in the players favour instead of being cut down the middle.

So in other words Stone wants out of Ottawa as that asking price is way too high. I get that some fans love him and I do feel he's a good player but he's not improved on his rookie season and plays less games every season. I expect a top paid winger to score more than 20-25 goals annually and defensive forwards should not be making the same money as elite scorers.

The Sens are one of the few Canadian teams I can stand. It sucks to see them falling apart.

Really? The fans in the city barely care about the team so why should I in Calgary? I don't hate them like the other Canadian teams but I'm pretty indifferent towards them.

Cody Ceci wants $6 mil/year??? That's gotta be a joke.
Ceci is terrible defensively and he's also slow as molasses. He's barely even worth half that amount at best.

"Not caring about" is about the highest rank I have for other NHL teams. I just kinda feel sorry for them because the news coming out of Ottawa is always bad.

I think Stone is asking 9 million from the sens but would ask a lot less from a better team...like the Flames

Its Arbitration.. both sides picked numbers that average to 7 M . Which is probably about right.
IF Stone says 8 M then the Arbitration award comes in at 6.5M. Remember if it gets to arbitration the arbitrator just splits the difference between the two parties.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
I think its a smart ask from Stone. He knows the amount will fall in at or around $7M and that will be his ask from teams moving forward when he leaves Ottawa or from the team he is traded to.

Plus, arbitration numbers are factored up by the agent, and down by the team, both knowing the appropriate numbers are somewhere in between.
I don't think we can conclude that Stone and his agent think he is worth $9M from this

Just once, I'd like to see a player or team ask for the actual number and the arbitrator look at the other party, call them stupid and award the proper number to the reasonable party.
