Day 2 Phase 3 training camp. Ryan unable to participate
I would imagine that if the groups are unchanged then Ryan is probably injury or maintenance related instead of virus. Ryan did leave practice early yesterday.
Calgary Flames @NHLFlames
#Flames Training Camp Update: Derek Ryan is unable to participate in practice today.
Kristen Anderson @KdotAnderson
Looks like the groups are the same from yesterday apart from Derek Ryan who is unable to participate.

Many players have not been practicing/skating for some time. It is probably way easier to tweak something the first few days. Hopefully it is just that. Good to see that everyone else is there.

but if Ryan wasn't positive, why group him with the guys that are? That is just asking him to get infected as well.

After seeing the vitriol in the other thread related to Covid-19, I can understand why the league has decided not to make the specific test results public.

Just a guess, but I doubt the 2nd group is a group that tested positive.

Yeah I doubt they tested positive. They might have been potentially exposed but have been testing negative so far.

What I find funny about the second group is that most of the players are known to be the Flames hardest workers.
Eatbread,Bennett, Anderson, Lucic and Rinaldo are all known to be extremely hard workers.. just a funny grouping.

It kind of sounds like #Flames head coach is losing his voice already. Lots of explaining, re-explaining, teaching and talking happening this morning.

I was thinking that. But seems weird you'd have all them skating together. All at higher risk of having contracted the virus, but none tested positive. Seems like a good way to make sure they all contract it if one ended up having it.

Dube and Robinson still gone.
Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
#Flames second group on Day 2 of training camp, same as yesterday — Talbot, Andersson, Hanifin, Bennett, Gaudreau, Jankowski, Lucic, Mangiapane and Rinaldo.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
#Flames head coach Geoff Ward says he will reunite the line of Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm when circumstances allow.
Says he isn’t worried that they’re not together now, as current situation dictates Gaudreau has to be in a different group.
Kristen Anderson @KdotAnderson
No word from #Flames head coach Geoff Ward on who they'll face in the exhibition game.
Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
Fascinating quote from interim coach Geoff Ward on #Flames first-round flop in 2019: "It wasn't a matter of skill last year. It was a matter of will."
Ryan Pike @RyanNPike
#Flames interim HC Geoff Ward with a lot of praise for the Stockton crew, noting that a lot of the younger players have grown their games since the last time he saw them (way back in Sept. 2019).

Are they intentionally separating key players early in the camp so that if one group goes down (positive or even just quarantine), the others are preserved?

That points it towards being due to potential exposure IMO.

Oh didn't know they would be doing pre playoff games. That's good.
Need some stakes though. Winner decides outcome of Lucic/Neal conditions?

Could be potential exposure, could just be the time since self-quarantine. Tough to say.

All of the play-in games are "pre-playoff games."
Gregor must move the goalposts here by applying the term to the warm-up/exhibition game because of how insecure he is about the Oilers potentially missing the playoffs for the thirteenth time in fourteen years.

This is exactly my impression of the 2019 playoffs. The Flanes played scared. That must change.

What happens to player stats in the play-in round? And for that matter the "pre-playoff" game. Are they considered regular seasons stats? Or is it just a one off event?
Imagine if an Oiler wins the scoring title for the once in a lifetime play-in round. He gets to be the all time round robin leading scorer forever. Banner worthy.
