I for one, didn’t want that little Weasel anywhere near this team. Can’t stand him. We’ll be happy we didn’t get him in the end.

I mostly agree. And I never want to see him drop the gloves again.

But he was 3rd on the canes with 182 hits last season (Martinook with 199 in 11 more games). Would have put him 2nd on the Flames between Hathaway and Bennett. So yes he does bring what the flames are lacking.

I would be interested in Ferland if he wasn't dealing with recurring concussion issues. I no longer believe he can play the style expected of him without involving long term health concerns.

I gotta ask, sure feels like this was the flames plan A. How does it get this far, only to realize the main component coming back won't waive the ntc?

71. Which is why I agree about the injury concern.

But he still brings it, every game. That’s all I’m saying.

Probably because they would not have asked him to waive until it was close

I’m also thinking that it may NEVER have gotten to a point where Kadri was asked to waive for Calgary. Looking at the Colorado package, I have a hard time thinking the Flames were offering quite that good of a package. I think the 50% retention on Barrie was key for the Leafs.

It seems reasonable to me to assume Colorado jumped in with a better offer that the flames couldn’t or wouldn’t match, before the ask if Kadri was even necessary. This could explain the confusion about the waive/no waive of the NTC to Calgary with the media.

Either way, I’m pretty happy that we didn’t cough up that price for Kadri. We should be able to move to another target with the Brodie currency (it Kreider or some other comparable winger)

I've been thinking about this too... and even if we retained on brodie, one could argue that kerfoot+Barrie is a much better package than brodie + jankowski... so I wonder if toronto came back asking for Bennett.

So Brodie has almost been traded twice now.

Can’t imagine he will be with the team in the fall

It's been less than 3 weeks and it's been one day of free agency.

Kadri would be an amazing second line centre for this team and that's who they were targeting. The dream list for me is: Couturier, Kyle Turris, Brayden Schenn, Wennberg, and I'm sure there more.

This teams needs more depth down the middle.

Yeah if you simply look at what the Leafs got for Kadri, and compare to what the Flames comparables would be, it makes a lot of sense why a Toronto Calgary deal didn’t happen.

I don't even want him for the grit, I want him because he's a 40 point winger that could come in at a decent price

That’s what Frolik is, and lots of people can’t wait to run him out of town

Nobody wants to run him out of town, it's apparent he wants to leave and he's just a victim of his cap hit. I don't think you'd find many, if any, people here that actually want him gone because they think he's trash.

I love Frolik, but as a guy with one year left on his deal that makes about 1 mil too much on a team that needs cap space, he's a victim of asset management. The fact that his agent publicly whined about his ice time it seems like finding him an opportunity elsewhere can be a win-win

True. I'll be happy if I've spoken too soon.
