Default RIP Joan Rivers

Just heard her interviewed recently, and she was funny as ever.

Yeah, she was a real pioneer. In the 80s so many people I knew had her comedy album. That thing was huge. Fearless.

Yeah, she was one of the greats. The best comedians are the ones that are able to make themselves, their biggest targets. The woman made fun of herself relentlessly, and always got a laugh at her own expense. In many respects, she was just as big, if not bigger than Robin Williams, in her prime.

Also another pioneer, as the first and only woman to host The Tonight Show.

RIP

She was on Stern quite a bit over the past few years. Never really considered myself a fan but I when I think about it I really enjoyed her ripping apart crybabies who were "offended" by comics. She didn't apologize for parts of her act, had been around long enough to not give a crap and was very brave. I wish more comedians followed her example.

Heard the documentary on her was really good, should get around to watching it.

Really sad news. While I admit I haven't dug into the entire story I understand this vocal cord surgery was because her voice was getting raspy and not a health concern so it kind of sucks to cut her life short for something like that.

Watch David Letterman, Conan O'Brien Honor Joan Rivers

Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Jon Stewart, Craig Ferguson and Seth Meyers also offer heartfelt tributes

too bad she was somewhat screwed over by Carson when it was time for him to be replaced on the Tonight show.

i don't recall the details, but I think something she did made Carson mad and she never guest hosted the Tonight Show again.....

I wonder sif it is safe to say she was one of the first female "superstar" comedinne?

It's when she started her own show on FOX, Carson got extremely butthurt over it and never spoke to her again

She was ground breaking for sure as a female stand-up. Lucille Ball and Lily Tomlin too (more as TV stars). Gilda Radner.

He was never butthurt over her new show according to Carson, he was butthurt that she never talked to him about it. Up to the moment that Fox announced it, Carson thought that Rivers was fine being his fill in host. Rivers has said it is her biggest regret in her career.

I always admired how she was unapologetic regarding her jokes and her style.

Yep. Never backed down or cowered to pressure after the odd classless joke ruffled feathers. Something you don't see much anymore.
