Yeah, she was one of the greats. The best comedians are the ones that are able to make themselves, their biggest targets. The woman made fun of herself relentlessly, and always got a laugh at her own expense. In many respects, she was just as big, if not bigger than Robin Williams, in her prime.
Also another pioneer, as the first and only woman to host The Tonight Show.
She was on Stern quite a bit over the past few years. Never really considered myself a fan but I when I think about it I really enjoyed her ripping apart crybabies who were "offended" by comics. She didn't apologize for parts of her act, had been around long enough to not give a crap and was very brave. I wish more comedians followed her example.
Heard the documentary on her was really good, should get around to watching it.
Really sad news. While I admit I haven't dug into the entire story I understand this vocal cord surgery was because her voice was getting raspy and not a health concern so it kind of sucks to cut her life short for something like that.
It's when she started her own show on FOX, Carson got extremely butthurt over it and never spoke to her again
He was never butthurt over her new show according to Carson, he was butthurt that she never talked to him about it. Up to the moment that Fox announced it, Carson thought that Rivers was fine being his fill in host. Rivers has said it is her biggest regret in her career.
