Steve Perry sings live for 1st time in over 20 years.
My favorite singer of all time finally hits the stage again with the Eels. Obviously he is not the vocalist he was in his 30's but it is pretty damn impressive for a guy that walked away from music over 20 years ago and has not really sang since.
"The interesting thing about this guy is he walked away from it all 20 years ago," observed Eels leader Mark Oliver "E" Everett, addressing the crowd from the stage. "And then in Minneapolis, he came back to sing with us. Then he walked away again, and six days later, in Washington, D.C., he came back again. And then he walked away again. Ladies and gentlemen, for the first time anywhere in 12 days — and the first time in L.A. in 20 years — please welcome Steve Perry!"

I'm a huge Journey fan (go ahead make fun) and a big Steve Perry fan. I regret never seeing them live. I can't bring myself to see them now with the new guy in place. So weird to think that Perry is in his mid 60s now.

Steve Perry is one of my favorite singers. Nothing against Arnel Pineda as he has a great voice and great story but he sounds like an intentional facsimile while Perry is the genuine article.
I've never heard of XTC, I will definitely have to check them out.
Edit 2: Dammit, now I have Cliff Richard - Dreaming - stuck in my head.

I also have this mad desire to see the original GNR lineup get back together but that will most certainly never happen because Axl Rose is a giant d-bag.

anyone into podcasts should check out the WTF Marc Maron interview with "E" from Eels a few months back (might be last year, I listen to a lot of these things) . It was a good one.
Abso-freaking-lutely. I was at the last show at Massey Hall, and Martin's voice was just shot from being sick or whatever. It was an amazing show, but I always wished for just one more show with Martin singing at 100%.
And I would travel just about anywhere to see Steve Perry sing with Journey.
Kate Bush in the right venue, as I recall she hasn't performed live in decades. What a voice.
Don't think that one will ever happen either. Their first 4 records were awesome. Especially Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi.

The return of Kate Bush to the stage on Tuesday night after an absence of 35 years is arguably the outstanding musical event of 2014, if not the decade. By comparison, David Bowie's surprise return last year after a 10-year silence looks almost humdrum.
I saw this a while back and could only thing WTF?!? Mark Everett and Steve Perry seem like they would have absolutely nothing in common.
As an aside, saw Eels about 6 weeks ago. The new record is really good, and they put on a great show. Worth checking out if you can.
