Default X929's 2014 X-fest speculation

Might as well throw a little speculation out there with a week to go until the announcement.

The only guess I really have would be Foster the People. As per the concert announcement thread, it appears as though Sylvan Lake was really close to getting Foster the People to headline the Summer City Music Jam on August 8.

That has since been rejected by town council, so it would only make sense for another group to jump in and bring Foster the People to Alberta. The three reasons it's seems like a good guess is;

1. Seems like a theme for Foster the People to play Canadian festivals this summer with Montreal's Osheaga on August 1 and 3, and then Sqaumish BC on August 8.

2. The Sylvan Lake connection. Shows they were willing to come play an Alberta show (the date is still open on their schedule)

3. Xfest is confirmed to be on the August 30/31 long weekend. Foster the People's tour schedule ends on August 24th after their Reading and Leads festival shows, leaving a perfect gap to come back to North America and play Xfest and Sonic Boom in Edmonton, giving them two shows to make the trip worth while.

If I was a betting man I'd put money down Foster the People headlining this year.

I agree that Foster the People should be here. I saw them a couple years ago...fantastic energy for a relatively new act. Im guessing that some of the bands on heavy rotation will be here as well like Wildlife, Fitz and the Tantrums, Mother Mother again, Head of the Herd.

Arctic Monkeys are a possibility. They don't have any dates booked after Reading & Leeds, so X-Fest weekend is open.

Maybe a pipe dream but NIN and Soundgarden are touring together and the last date is Aug 25 in LA, possibly a trek up here to do 2 final shows??? Also Eddie said see you next summer at the end of Pearl Jam's show in December, just throwing it out there

I'd love it if it was pearl jam, but looking back he was most likely making a joke about the snowstorm that came close to cancelling the show.

Also, looking at their tour schedule it looks like they'll be long finished their current tour by then.

I posted this in the music festival thread, but here are my guesses.

Judging from the bands that are playing nearby festivals, and what X plays, I would think it would be a combo of:

rise against, tokyo police club, metric, modest mouse, cage the elephant, stars, arctic monkeys, broken bells, foster the people, walk off the earth, mounties, head of the herd

Looking forward to tomorrow morning, lots of hype about the lineup this year! Seena few writers on twitter who said they got a early glimpse at the lineup and they were blown away and it is easily the best yet.....guess we will see!!

Jack White, Arctic Monkeys, Foster the People look like the headliners

Also, Cage the Elephant, MS MR, Tegan & Sara, Serena Ryder, Death Cab for Cutie, Rise Against

Jack White! That's rad. His solo show is unreal. That's a huge step up from the #### headliners they have had the last few years.

That's actually a pretty impressive line up they secured there. Pretty even across the board as well, heck take away Jack White and The Arctic. Monkeys and you'd still have a decent festival between Death Cab and Foster The People.

The design of the poster is not my favorite, but that does seem like a decent line-up!!

This reminds me that they had City and Colour as the main draw last year. What an odd choice for a festival closer. This lineup seems to make more sense. Good on them for getting Jack White.
