It's been 10 years in the making and almost 17 years since his death, but Canadian-born comedian Phil Hartman is finally getting his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced this week Hartman's star will be unveiled Aug. 26 by his brother, John Hartmann, and his former Saturday Night Live castmate Kevin Nealon.
A native of Brantford, Ont., Hartman moved away with his family when he was eight. He later became a superstar on SNL for eight seasons and a critical part of the sitcom NewsRadio.
Family members and friends have been lobbying long and hard for the milestone.
Surprised he didn't already have one actually. Definitely worthy of it. He had some amazing characters on SNL and his voice acting on the Simpsons was fantastic.
I'm a huge admirer of Hartman. His portrayal of Bill McNeal on "News Radio" was incredibly funny. as far as the star on the walk goes, I guess better late never.

As I mentioned in the Robin Williams thread, Phil Hartman was the last celebrity death that really affected me. I was a huge fan of his. His delivery style and sense of comedic timing was absolutely perfect.

I always wondered if one day there was going to actually be a Planet of the Apes musical (with Hartman as Troy McClure). I've heard rumors that they were planning on it; that would have been quite the site to see. Probably my favorite musical segment (and most quotable) in the history of the show. I can still recite the entire score in its entirety.
Zapp Brannigan on Futurama was written for Phil Hartman initially. After his death, Billy West took over and modeled his voice acting for Zapp after Hartman.
