A counter argument to changing the Edmonton Eskimos name:

Quote:
For Ruben, the name has always been a source of pride, and is the reason he followed the team.
"Growing up as a kid, I first caught on to a football game and Edmonton Eskimos were playing and I really thought it was our own team. I felt a sense of pride," Ruben said.
Ruben thinks politicians should be focussing their energy, and money, on more important issues Inuit face.
"For me it's just political grandstanding. It has nothing to do with our social issues now. You have never heard of a person who lost a house, or can't get a house because of the Edmonton Eskimos name."

If someone wants to make use of something belonging to another, that person is entitled to ask for compensation and decide for themselves what they consider it to be worth.

Questions about the use of those funds after a deal is another matter.

No native band would ever let you build on burial grounds. We fence those areas off once they are identified and build around them.

Your comments are ignorant. The first Tsu Tina ring road deal was rejected because the government had the option of giving cash in lieu of land. For many older natives any development of the land damages it.

Now there is the competing interests from the younger generation that are looking for money for access but there is a reason that BC environmentalists have found willing partners in native bands.

That's because the Blackfoot and the Stoney are still officially at war over this territory

Your comment wasn't racist (unless of course you intended it to be). It was however ignorant. It stems from a lack of knowledge of what you are talking about.

Ignorance is a lack of knowledge. The word ignorant is an adjective describing a person in the state of being unaware, and can be used to describe individuals who deliberately ignore or disregard important information or facts or individuals who are not aware of that important information or facts.

Here you go.

The band was divided between those who favoured future economic development and others who wanted to hold on to the land, which includes burial grounds considered sacred.
