Thanks, Roughneck. Where did you find out the measures the US courses are taking?
Twitter mostly. I'm also part of a private Facebook group for maintenance people and it's the common theme.

It would be tough to bring enough water around the course to stay safe in summer in warmer states.
With the risks it's basically the tradeoff for now. Private courses might switch to bottled water stations if they feel the risk is more mitigated with that but I don't think there's a chance for public ones to take on the potential liability.
With everything that's going on maybe it's time for golfers to double-down on their cool style and invest in a hands free hydration system:
Golf courses are not mentioned by I supposed they will fall under "public recreation facilities and private entertainment facilities" which means they won't open until the AB state of emergency has been lifted. Restaurants can still open, however.

Albertans are prohibited from attending public recreation facilities and private entertainment facilities.
This includes gyms, swimming pools, arenas, science centres, museums, art galleries, community centres, children’s play centres, casinos, racing entertainment centres and bingo halls.

I suspect golf courses will be able to open fine in about a month when the start opening. Perfect activity that practices social distancing no?
An environment in which a person encounters only beliefs or opinions that coincide with their own, so that their existing views are reinforced and alternative ideas are not considered.
How many golf clubs in Calgary can survive losing an entire season or a major portion of a season? Private clubs might be better because members are cash cows.

I'll be shocked if they don't open.
Just ban power carts and you are already doing better than half the city still working.
Stuff coming out of BC is that courses are closing because they can't deal with any potential closure due to a case (so no maintenance crew for 2 weeks is bad). But the big thing for them now in particular is the frost delays: can't stop the congregating and other 'violations' of social distancing. They want to get out ahead and shut down themselves before they're told to shut down (don't want to be the place singled out in the media, golf has a bad enough PR problem).
Golfers have been their own worst enemy in golf courses being able to stay open.

They were talking to a bunch of courses in Alberta on the news and they were all prepping to plan as normal as they haven't heard anything from the province yet.
I'm guessing we will see something like this:
- 15 or 20 minute tee times
- Pay in advance
- One person checking people in
- no carts or 1 person per cart
- No snack shack or maybe limited
- Same hole types as elsewhere that allows you to get your ball without touching anything
- no rakes
Reading of the legislation, Golf courses are not on the list that are specifically forbidden to open, therefore, Golf courses can open as long as they observe the social distancing rules. Is this there reason Golf courses can open in Alberta?

Businesses not on the list
If a business is not listed here as an essential service, it can still continue to operate if:
it is not specifically prohibited from offering services in a location accessible to the public
the business doesn’t fall under previous business, workplace and facility closures
A business must still follow all other public health orders and guidelines, including maintaining physical distancing, and prohibiting people from coming to work sick.
Haha well the examples I have seen it’s still Embedded in the ground.
Oh well. I just really hope courses open and people aren't so stupid out there that they stay open. It would be a nice reprieve from the real world for a few hours.
